What are the complications of persistent right umbilical vein birth?

After becoming pregnant, women will have regular prenatal checkups in order to understand the baby's development in a timely manner. However, some pregnant women were found to have persistent right umbilical vein after the examination, which made pregnant women very scared, fearing that it would bring harm to the baby's health. The incidence of persistent right umbilical vein is very high. Under normal circumstances, it will not affect the development of the fetus. So what are the sequelae of persistent right umbilical vein after birth?

First, what are the sequelae of persistent right umbilical vein birth? The right umbilical vein is also relatively common and will not affect the future growth and development of the fetus or newborn. As long as other results of the fetal examination are normal now and the fetal heart ultrasound is also normal, then regular prenatal examinations will be sufficient in the future.

Second, it is recommended that you do another four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound between the 30th and 35th weeks of pregnancy. Generally, during the development of the fetus, there are two umbilical arteries and two umbilical veins. During the development process, one umbilical vein will degenerate. If this happens, it is okay. After birth, the original umbilical vein will degenerate into a ligament, and then the two umbilical veins of your fetus will also degenerate. After birth, the umbilical vein has no function. It is only used to transport blood between the mother and the fetus during the fetal period. After birth, there is no material exchange between the mother and the fetus.

Third, the permanent right umbilical vein is also called the persistent right umbilical vein. It is just an anatomical variation. It means that the right umbilical vein should have degenerated.

The right umbilical vein did not degenerate, but the left umbilical vein, which should not have degenerated, did degenerate. The vast majority of persistent right umbilical vein malformations are not associated with fetal malformations, and only a few may be associated with fetal malformations. It is recommended to continue observation. If there are no other abnormalities in the examination, the fetus is healthy. If necessary, fetal echocardiography and chromosome examination can be performed to check whether the fetus has other malformations.

What are the sequelae of persistent right umbilical vein birth? A simple right umbilical vein without other body or organ malformations is often a benign variation and generally does not cause any problems. A velamentous placenta is when the umbilical cord attaches to one side of the placenta, which may affect the normal blood supply to the fetus. The velamentous placenta has little effect on pregnant women, but it mainly affects the fetus. If the umbilical cord attachment point is just at the lower edge of the placenta near the cervix, it may cause fetal intrauterine distress. Don't be too nervous. Most velamentous placentas are fine. Pay more attention to monitoring fetal movements and changes in fetal heart rates during pregnancy. If the fetal movement is less than four times per hour and the fetal heart rate slows down, you should pay attention. If you can hold out until 37 weeks, the baby will be safe. In terms of delivery method, doctors generally recommend cesarean section.
