What are the symptoms of roundworms in children? How to prevent it?

Ascariasis is a common disease among children. Having roundworms in the body has a huge impact on children, because the presence of roundworms can cause malnutrition, developmental delay, insomnia, convulsions, and even cause necrosis of the appendix and intestinal blockage. Parents need to understand the symptoms of ascariasis so that they can detect and treat it in time. In addition, in daily life, we must also use certain methods to prevent the occurrence of ascariasis.

1. The harm of ascariasis to children

1. Severe ascariasis infection in children can lead to malnutrition, mental retardation and slow development. In addition, they may also suffer from irritability, insomnia, teeth grinding, convulsions, and may cause allergic reactions and symptoms such as stubborn urticaria, which will affect the child's development and health.

2. Ascaris have a habit of drilling holes in the stomach and when they are irritated they can easily become agitated and cause complications.

3. Like biliary ascariasis, they drill into the bile duct and cause severe colic in the upper abdomen, resulting in the child's unbearable crying, rolling around, and cold sweats. There is also ascariasis appendicitis, which slowly transfers from abdominal pain to colic in the right lower abdomen, and ascarid-like cords may be felt at the appendix. Over time, it can lead to appendicitis necrosis and perforation, and eventually turn into ascariasis peritonitis.

4. Too many roundworms gathered together and blocked the intestines, causing roundworm intestinal obstruction. If not treated in time, it can also lead to intestinal necrosis.

2. Symptoms of roundworms in children's stomachs

1. The edges of the nails are uneven, and there are faint round, pale white spots, which may be roundworm eggs.

2. There are repeated cramps around the navel or upper abdomen, which occur at irregular times and for irregular durations. If a child occasionally complains of stomachache, just rub and press the area and it will be fine. The symptoms often occur in the early morning or at night, and after the pain stops, the patient can eat, drink and play as normal.

3. Frequent nausea, vomiting, and anorexia. Children have poor appetite and do not eat well. They are usually full after just two bites. Or the child always feels hungry, and has a good appetite, but does not gain weight no matter how much he eats (or even becomes thinner day by day). It may be that roundworms have "stolen" the child's nutrition.

4. White spots may occasionally be seen on the face and hip bones, and blue spots may be seen on the whites of the eyes.

5. Grinding of teeth, waking up easily at night, lack of energy and irritability during the day.

6. There is itching in the anus, mild diarrhea or constipation, undigested food in the stool, or ascaris eggs are excreted.

3. Daily methods to prevent roundworms

Be sure to teach your children to wash their hands before meals and after going to the toilet to develop good habits.

Trim your nails regularly to prevent roundworm eggs from hiding in the gaps between your nails. Don't let your child develop the habit of sucking his fingers.

Do not drink raw water, and make sure to wash raw fruits and vegetables before eating to prevent roundworm eggs from forming on the surface of the fruits and vegetables.

Dry your bedding frequently, do not urinate or defecate anywhere, and pay attention to personal hygiene.
