The effect of white head

The effect of white head

Many plants have multiple names, especially in different regions. Bai Tou Po is a Chinese herbal medicine called You Ma Zhui. This Chinese herbal medicine has many other names, such as Perilla frutescens, Mao Ze Lan, etc. There are many functions of Glechoma longituba. It can not only clear away heat and detoxify, but also lower blood pressure and eliminate phlegm. The following will introduce to you the functions and pharmacological effects of Glechoma longituba in detail.

1. Wild Horse Chase

The traditional Chinese medicine wild horsetail is also known as white drum nail, food grass, hairy zelan, pointed pennywort, pennywort, and white-headed woman. It is the whole herb of the Asteraceae plant Cyperus rotundus. The stem of this product is cylindrical, 30-90cm long and up to 0.5cm in diameter. The surface is yellow-green or purple-brown, with longitudinal ridges, densely covered with gray-white hairs, especially on young branches; it is hard, easy to break, fibrous in cross section, with white pith, and some old branches are hollow. The leaves are opposite, sessile, and wrinkled. When the complete leaves are flattened, they are completely 3-parted, and arranged in whorls. The lobes are linear-lanceolate, the middle lobe is longer, and the edges are sparsely serrated. The upper surface is green-brown, the lower surface is yellow-green, and both sides are hairy with yellow glandular dots. The inflorescence is terminal, often arranged into dense corymbs or large compound corymbs. It has a faint smell and tastes slightly bitter and astringent.

The best ones are those with many leaves, green color and newly opened flowers.

【Main indications】Treat chronic tracheitis, bronchitis, and hypertension.

[Usage and Dosage] For oral use: decoction, 30-60g.

3. Chemical composition

The whole plant contains flavonoids (including hyperoside), bioalkaloids, volatile oils and coumarins.

4. Pharmacological Action

The flavonoid components in Mustard were prepared into a suspension with carboxymethyl cellulose and administered orally to mice, which had a certain antitussive effect on ammonia-induced cough. It is reported that a 10% concentration has an inhibitory effect on Staphylococcus aureus, Shigella dysenteriae, and Streptococcus A. Clinically, it can increase white blood cells, lower blood pressure, and inhibit glandular secretion.

5. Clinical Application

Treatment of chronic bronchitis: Clinical observation was conducted using the whole herb of Wild Horsetail and its extracts - flavonoids and bioalkalis: 79 cases in the flavonoid group, 97 cases in the bioalkali group, 94 cases in the flavonoid-bioalkali mixture group, and 154 cases in the whole herb group. The drug dosage in each group is equivalent to 2 liang of raw medicine per day, which is processed into various tablets, 3 times a day, 3 tablets each time, 10 days as a course of treatment, and two courses of treatment are required continuously. Results The total effective rate of each group was 78.7-85.5%, and the near control and marked effective rate was 31.7-46.6%. Among them, the mixed group had the best efficacy. In each group, antitussive effect was the best, followed by expectorant effect, and antiasthmatic effect was the worst. It has been observed in practice that the efficacy is higher when the disease course is short, and the efficacy tends to gradually decrease as the disease course prolongs. For patients with emphysema, the efficacy seems to be lower than that without complications, but there is no statistical difference. The effective rate and near-control efficiency of two courses of treatment are significantly higher than those of one course of treatment. Side effects include mild dry mouth, upper abdominal discomfort, dizziness, etc., which are more obvious in the whole herb group, but they can disappear on their own and do not affect continued medication. Some patients underwent liver function and urine routine tests before and after taking the medicine, and the results showed no significant changes. During the treatment, it was found that Mustang has the effect of lowering blood pressure. For patients with hypertension, it can also achieve a certain therapeutic effect; for those with normal blood pressure, it only shows fluctuations within the normal range, and no case has symptoms of hypotension.
