Hardening of ear cartilage

Hardening of ear cartilage

Ears are the organs that we use to listen to the world. Although they are inconspicuous, they are very important. When there are some problems with the ears, it may even affect the surrounding organs, which will cause certain harm to your health. Ear calcification is a relatively common ear disease. When ear calcification occurs, the patient will experience redness, swelling, fever and pain. At this time, go to the hospital for treatment in time.

The hardening of the ear cartilage is chondrocalcification, which is also known as calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate deposition disease. This is what we usually call pseudogout. Pseudogout refers to a disease caused by the deposition of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals in articular cartilage. It is a synovitis induced by calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals.

symptom:

The disease occurs suddenly during an acute attack, with joints becoming red, swollen, hot, and painful, and there is often fluid accumulation in the joint cavity. It most commonly occurs in the knee joint and other common large joints such as the hip, ankle, shoulder, elbow, and wrist, occasionally affecting the finger and toe joints, but rarely invading the big toe like gout. It usually occurs acutely in a single joint. Surgery and trauma can induce it. Chronic disease can affect multiple joints, is symmetrical, and progresses slowly, similar to osteoarthritis. The clinical manifestations of pseudogout are similar to those of gout, but are milder and the small joints of the limbs are less affected, while gout is prone to occur in the small joints of the limbs. During an acute attack, the erythrocyte sedimentation rate increases, the white blood cell count increases, but the blood uric acid level is not high. Calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals can be found in synovial fluid. X-rays show calcification of the articular cartilage in the form of dots and lines.

treat:

During the acute phase, you should rest properly and take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac sodium (Voltaren) under the guidance of a doctor. If necessary, joint fluid can be extracted and hormones can be injected into the joint. If the joint is severely damaged and multiple treatments are ineffective, surgical treatment such as synovectomy and artificial joint replacement may be considered.

How to take care of your ears in daily life

1. Wipe with alcohol regularly

When the ears become itchy, most people think that it is caused by too much earwax in the ears, so there is no need to clean the ears excessively. You can use a cotton swab dipped in medical alcohol to gently wipe it. This will not only relieve itching but also disinfect and prevent ear infections.

2. Use special tools to clean your ears

Of course, you should use professional tools to clean your ears to reduce damage to your ears. If the earwax in the ear is small or broken, use a special earwax hook or a blunt spoon to gently remove it. For large earwax, you can first drip special earwax water for a few days, generally for 3 days, 4-5 times a day, 3-4 drops each time. After the earwax is softened and crushed, you can rinse it with saline.

3. Do not pierce your ears

Modern people not only pursue a high quality of life, but are also crazy about fashion. Ear piercing is a way to pursue fashion. In fact, this method is very harmful to the ears. Because piercing the auricular cartilage not only leads to the risk of inflammation and scarring, it may also eventually affect your hearing level.

4. Avoid noisy environments

People have all had this experience: in a particularly noisy environment, not only do their ears feel uncomfortable, but their bodies also feel strange. Excessive noise has negative effects on hearing, sleep, work and mood. This does not only refer to noisy workplaces. Too loud music in KTV rooms and mobile phones will affect our hearing, ultimately causing us to often hear voices but not be able to distinguish what others are saying.
