Can muscular torticollis be completely cured?

Muscular torticollis is the most common disease in children. Parents should have a scientific understanding of these diseases because they will affect and hinder the growth and development of children. After suffering from this disease, head movement will be restricted. As to whether muscular torticollis can be completely cured, it can actually be treated from different aspects. Through massage therapy, relaxing muscles and activating blood circulation can have a certain therapeutic effect.

1. Clinical manifestations:

After birth, the child has limited head movement, the head tilts to one side, and a spindle-shaped hard mass can be felt on the affected side of the neck. As the disease progresses, the child's head tilts and leans forward to the affected side, and the face leans toward the healthy side, gradually developing facial asymmetry, with the healthy side larger and the affected side smaller. If not treated promptly, it may cause scoliosis of the cervical and thoracic vertebrae, which will gradually worsen with age.

2. Treatment methods:

1. Let the child lie on his back on the bed with his head facing the operator. The operator sits in front of the bed and holds the child's neck with one hand so that the affected side of the neck faces upward. Use the thumb or index, middle, and ring fingers of the other hand to massage the affected side of the neck for 3-6 minutes, using force from light to heavy, repeatedly, to promote the dissipation of the lump.

2 . Gently grasp the contracted muscles and pluck the tendons for 3 to 6 minutes. Then use the thumb and index finger to pluck the affected tendons 10 to 18 times to facilitate muscle stretching and relaxation.

3. The operator holds the child's head with one hand and tilts it back, and uses the other hand to hold the affected shoulder and pull it 5-6 times. Then, the operator uses the outer side of the palm of the hand that is holding the shoulder to do rapid rolling on the affected neck until the skin becomes red and hot.

4. Turn and rotate the child's head toward the healthy side, repeat 8 to 10 times. Note that the operation should be from light to heavy, and from small to large, and do not use excessive force to rotate the head beyond the normal range of motion.

3. Notes

1. Check the fetal position frequently during pregnancy and correct it promptly if it is found to be abnormal.

2. Pay attention to rotate the child's face to the healthy side, and use a pillow to support the affected side when sleeping or feeding to help correct the deformity.

3. After massage, you can put a hot water bag on the affected side of the neck. The water temperature should be around 40℃. Using melted paraffin will have a better effect to promote blood circulation.

4. For patients with a long course of illness, with no effect from massage for more than six months, or for patients over 2 years old, surgical treatment should be considered.
