Does polyene phospholipids protect the liver?

Does polyene phospholipids protect the liver?

As we all know, the liver organ is very important to the human body. It generally regulates body functions and detoxifies. However, in recent years, due to bad eating habits, heavy taste in food, long-term smoking and drinking, many people's liver organs are in bad condition and have problems to varying degrees. At present, in addition to paying attention to diet, avoiding spicy and irritating foods, smoking, and alcoholism, drug treatment is also required. This article briefly introduces whether polyene phospholipids can protect the liver?

For drug-induced liver injury, whether it is caused by the use of Chinese medicine, Western medicine or a combination of Chinese and Western medicine, it is necessary to find the drug that causes liver damage and stop using the drug. However, the professor said that many elderly people may have comorbidities and have to take multiple medications at the same time, which increases the burden on the liver.

There are many causes of liver damage, including viruses, metabolic factors, drugs, alcohol, autoimmunity, etc. Liver damage caused by different etiologies often has the same progression and outcome, namely, liver inflammation, liver fibrosis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer. Treatment targeting the cause is undoubtedly the first-line treatment to effectively block the progression of chronic liver disease. However, there are still some chronic liver diseases that have no effective cause treatment, and the existing cause treatments cannot completely control liver damage in all patients. Therefore, on the basis of etiological treatment, liver protection treatment is an important treatment for chronic liver disease, and its role cannot be ignored.

Classification and application time of anti-inflammatory and liver-protecting drugs

There are many types of anti-inflammatory and liver-protecting drugs currently used in clinical practice, with different mechanisms. The professor introduced that according to the mechanism of action, anti-inflammatory and liver-protecting drugs can be divided into:

①Repair liver cell membranes: polyene phosphatidylcholine, etc.;

② Antioxidants: silymarin, etc.

③ Detoxification: reduced glutathione, etc.;

④ Anti-inflammatory: glycyrrhizic acid preparations, etc.;

⑤ Enzyme-degrading drugs: bicyclol, etc.

⑥ Choleretics: ursodeoxycholic acid, adenosine methionine, etc. The professor emphasized that the preventive use of anti-inflammatory and liver-protecting drugs is generally not recommended in clinical practice. The cause of liver damage needs to be eliminated first, and liver-protecting drugs should only be used when the liver damage does not improve.

Polyene phosphatidylcholine has a long history of clinical application and has multiple liver-protective effects

The first generation of liver cell membrane repair and protective agent, phosphatidylcholine, has been used in clinical practice for 65 years. The second generation of liver cell membrane repair and protective agent, polyene phosphatidylcholine, obtained after purification, has also been used for nearly 40 years. Polyene phosphatidylcholine has been used in clinical practice in China for more than 20 years.

Polyene phosphatidylcholine can be widely used in a variety of liver diseases

The main mechanism of action of polyene phosphatidylcholine is to maintain the integrity of biological membranes. It can be used for a variety of liver diseases, and its effectiveness has been verified by clinical trials and clinical practice applications.
