Side effects of ovulation-stimulating drugs

Side effects of ovulation-stimulating drugs

The reason why some women cannot get pregnant for a long time is because there are some problems with the quality or quantity of their eggs, so doctors will let such women take some ovulation-inducing drugs orally to achieve the purpose of pregnancy. However, the side effects of ovulation-inducing drugs are relatively large, so when taking this type of drug orally, you must pay attention to the amount used. The side effects of this type of drug often include lower abdominal pain or nausea, dizziness, etc., and taking it for a long time will cause rapid weight gain.

Side effects of ovulation-stimulating drugs

1. Abnormal ovulation in women of childbearing age

Ovulation-stimulating drugs can cause abnormal ovulation in women of childbearing age. When a woman is pregnant with multiple babies, both she and the fetus are at high risk, and the risk of fertility is extremely high. The miscarriage rate for pregnant women with multiple births is about 10% higher than that of normal pregnant women, the premature birth rate is 20% higher, and the fetal mortality rate is 135 per thousand higher. Moreover, multiple pregnancies can easily cause maternal premature rupture of membranes, high blood pressure, anemia, heavy bleeding during delivery and other diseases. It can even cause intellectual retardation in children and a higher probability of fetal malformations.

2. Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome

A large number of ovulations in a short period of time will cause excessive stimulation to the ovarian endocrine system and increase the permeability of blood vessels throughout the body. If water in the human body seeps out of the blood vessels, it will cause vascular embolism, putting the patient's life in danger.

3. Other adverse reactions

Some women of childbearing age may experience the following adverse reactions while taking the medication: lower abdominal pain, swollen and painful breasts, nausea, dizziness, weakness, rash, blurred vision, etc. If the patient does not have ovulation problems, she will not give birth to twins. Instead, she will experience symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea. In severe cases, there will be complications such as a large amount of pleural effusion, ascites, cardiopulmonary dysfunction, blood concentration, and liver damage.

Precautions for taking ovulation-stimulating drugs

Ovulation-inducing drugs, represented by clomiphene, are hormonal drugs and are generally used to treat infertility in female patients caused by anovulation. However, the side effects of using ovulation-inducing drugs are very obvious. The ovaries continue to ovulate under the stimulation of the drugs, which can easily cause women to have irregular menstruation, premature ovarian failure, ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, and a small number of people will develop ovarian tumors.

In clinical practice, doctors do not encourage patients to use ovulation-inducing drugs at will. Even if a mother conceives twins or multiple births through drugs, the mother will bear huge risks during pregnancy, which can easily lead to various obstetric complications. The fetus is also prone to malnutrition, low weight, poor survival and other problems.

Since pregnancy and childbirth under pharmacological effects violate normal physiological reactions, doctors only use it with caution when treating female patients with infertility caused by anovulation. Women of childbearing age should take such drugs with caution under the strict diagnosis and guidance of a doctor.

Ovulation-stimulating drugs are a very dangerous type of medicine. They have indeed made contributions to the treatment of female infertility, but please do not think that they are a panacea.
