Reasons for delayed delivery

Reasons for delayed delivery

When the due date arrives, but the baby is reluctant to come out, the expectant mother will be very anxious. In fact, as long as it does not exceed half a month, there is no need to worry too much, because this is a relatively normal phenomenon. There are many reasons for exceeding the due date. The first is calculation error. In addition, if the pregnant woman does not exercise enough on a normal basis, it may also lead to such a phenomenon. Therefore, she should exercise moderately at this time, which will help to smooth the delivery.

1 Reason for delayed due date: calculation error

In clinical practice, the expected date of delivery is calculated based on the last menstrual period. However, sometimes pregnant mothers get the date of their last menstrual period wrong or use the last day of their last menstrual period. These will lead to errors in the calculation of the expected date of delivery and delay the expected date of delivery.

2 Reasons for delayed due date: normal reaction

The due date is the expected time of delivery of a pregnant woman. It is a reference date estimated in medicine based on the last menstrual period. The due date itself is different from the date of conception. In addition, the time of birth of the fetus is affected by factors such as the intrauterine environment, fetal development, the physical condition of the pregnant woman and the actual environment, so the time of birth cannot be accurately predicted. The due date is only the approximate time of delivery for a pregnant woman. Generally speaking, it is normal to give birth within 2 weeks before or after the due date. So expectant mothers don’t need to worry too much.

3. Reason 3 for delayed due date: Not enough exercise

Continuous exercise keeps both the mother and the fetus in an active state. When the fetus matures, it will secrete a hormone into the mother's blood, prompting the mother's pituitary gland to secrete oxytocin, initiating uterine contractions and bringing on labor. This is what we often call "ripe fruit falls off the vine." When pregnant women become less active, the fetus lacks the passive movement power provided by the mother, so the fetus has poor initiative and cannot actively secrete hormones for the mother. The mother lacks exercise, her muscles lack elasticity, and the small amount of oxytocin is not enough to initiate uterine contractions, so delivery is delayed and causes a post-term pregnancy.

4 Reasons for delayed due date: menstrual cycle

The menstrual cycle of women can be long or short, but the interval between ovulation and the start of the next menstruation is relatively fixed, about 14 days. The calculation method is to start from the first day of the next menstrual period, and count down 14 days to the ovulation day. If a woman's menstrual cycle is 28-30 days, her ovulation occurs on the 14th to 16th day of the cycle. If a woman's cycle is 40 days, her ovulation day is around the 26th day of the menstruation. The ovulation period is within 10 days between 5 days before and 4 days after ovulation. Women should have normal sexual life before and after the ovulation period to give sperm and egg a chance to meet and fertilize. Sperm can survive in the female vagina for 1-3 days, and the egg can survive for about 1 day after being released. Conception is only possible if sexual intercourse occurs within a few days before or after ovulation. Therefore, the menstrual cycle of the expectant mother will also affect the expected date of delivery. If the menstrual cycle is longer, the expected date of delivery will be relatively delayed.

5 Reasons for delayed due date: Pregnant women

In addition to the common factors mentioned above, there are also factors related to the pregnant woman herself that may affect the expected date of delivery, such as advanced age, hormone secretion, mental state, etc.

6 Reasons for delayed due date: Fetal factors

Many expectant mothers are only trying to find the reasons within themselves, but forget that maybe it’s the little naughty kid in their belly that’s against them. Certain conditions of the fetus can also cause the due date to arrive.
