How to measure resting heart rate

How to measure resting heart rate

Many people measure their resting heart rate when measuring their heart rate, because resting heart rate refers to the normal heart rate of a person under normal circumstances. Some people are nervous when measuring their heart rate, so the measured heart rate may be inaccurate, which will affect the results of the physical examination. Before measuring the heart rate, you should quit smoking and drinking, otherwise it may affect the measurement results. So how do you measure the resting heart rate?

Resting heart rate, also known as quiet heart rate, refers to the number of heart beats per minute when you are awake, inactive and quiet. Relying on exercise to exercise heart function, maintaining a proper weight, quitting smoking and limiting alcohol consumption can keep the resting heart rate in a relatively slow and stable range.

Static heart rate is not calculated but measured.

The best time to measure your resting heart rate is in the morning, after you have woken up naturally and are still lying in bed without doing any physical activity. Before measuring, we take a deep breath to completely relax our body. The best measurement locations are the brachial and radial arteries. When measuring, we use the index and middle fingers to press on the brachial artery and radial artery. Measure three times in minutes without any interval between each time, and then calculate the average value, which is your current static heart rate level.

The normal heart rate for most people is 72 beats/minute for men and 80 beats/minute for women. If you exercise regularly, you will find that your heart rate is very low. Don’t be afraid, it means your cardiopulmonary function is very good. The resting heart rate of athletes is mostly between 50 and 60 beats per minute. If you exercise regularly, your static heart rate should be between 60 and 70 beats per minute.

Note: When measuring your heart rate, make sure your body is in good condition. For example, drinking alcohol or being too tired the day before measurement will affect the measurement results. We can choose a few more mornings to test, and the relatively close values are the correct heart rate levels.
