How to induce labor naturally after due date

How to induce labor naturally after due date

Not all pregnant women will give birth on their due date. The due date is just an estimated time. Some women will give birth earlier or later than this date. Generally, it is a normal physiological phenomenon within two weeks. Don't worry too much. However, if you haven't given birth after more than two weeks, there will be certain risks. At this time, you should consider inducing labor. There are many ways to induce labor, such as diet induction, exercise induction, etc.

How to induce labor after due date

1. Diet induces labor

Eating the following two types of porridge when giving birth can help pregnant mothers give birth more smoothly. It not only speeds up the delivery process but also reduces the mother's pain.

Amaranth porridge

Ingredients: Amaranth, brown rice, a little salt and appropriate amount of water.

Preparation: Put appropriate amount of clean water and brown rice in the pot, cook until the porridge is almost done, add amaranth and fine salt, and boil over high heat.

Efficacy: Clears away heat, lubricates the orifices, and facilitates delivery.

Water spinach porridge

Ingredients: water spinach, brown rice, a little salt and appropriate amount of water.

Preparation: Put appropriate amount of clean water and brown rice in the pot, cook until the porridge is almost done, add water spinach and salt, and continue to cook until the porridge is done.

Efficacy: Clears heat, cools blood and promotes diuresis. If pregnant mothers eat it when they are about to give birth, it can help with miscarriage and easy delivery.

Tip: Pregnant mothers should note that these two types of porridge should not be consumed during pregnancy to prevent miscarriage.

2. Exercise promotes birth

In the late stage of pregnancy (especially after 37 weeks), if the prenatal check-up is normal (including fetal weight exceeding 2,500 grams, pregnant women have no pregnancy complications, etc.), Dr. Li Zhuo recommends that pregnant mothers should be prepared for the upcoming birth and can do more of the following exercises:

*Take a walk for more than 30 minutes every day. (Suitable for all pregnant mothers)

*Climb stairs slowly several times a day. (Suitable for pregnant mothers who do not breathe too hard and do not cause abnormal uterine contractions)

*Sit cross-legged with your feet touching each other. (The purpose is to train the pelvic cavity and help natural childbirth)

3. Drug-induced labor

If other methods cannot make the pregnant mother feel labor pains early, then drugs have to be used to induce labor. Before using oxytocin to induce labor, pregnant mothers must undergo a series of examinations and monitoring to assess the condition of the fetus and placental function.

Obstetric examination

An experienced obstetrician can assess the maturity of the cervix (the softness of the cervix and the dilation of the external os of the uterus) through digital cervical examination of the expectant mother, and then consider whether to induce labor earlier.

?B-ultrasound examination

The B-ultrasound examination of overdue pregnancy mainly includes the following key indicators: placental maturity, amniotic fluid volume, fetal size, and umbilical cord blood flow velocity. The doctor can decide whether to give the expectant mother oxytocin based on the test results.

Tip: Before inducing labor, it is best for the expectant mother to fast for several hours to empty the stomach. Because some expectant mothers will vomit during the process of inducing labor; on the other hand, during the process of inducing labor, cesarean section is often necessary due to acute fetal distress, and an empty stomach helps reduce the vomiting reaction of anesthesia.
