What to do if your 5-month-old baby has diarrhea

If a five-month-old baby has diarrhea, timely treatment is required. First of all, the diet should be adjusted. Breastfeeding cannot be stopped at this time, but the feeding time can be shortened. If the child is bottle-fed, do not feed whole milk powder at this time, but feed some skimmed milk powder appropriately. In addition, water should be replenished in time to prevent the child from becoming dehydrated. Massage the abdomen and pay attention to keeping warm, especially the abdomen.

What to do if your 5-month-old baby has diarrhea

1. Adjust your diet:

If a breastfed child develops diarrhea, do not wean the child off breastfeeding easily. Instead, shorten the time of each feeding and let the child eat the first 1/2 to 2/3 of the milk, because the first half of breast milk mainly contains substances such as protein. The second half of breast milk mainly contains substances such as fat, which is difficult to digest, so this part of milk can be squeezed out and poured away.

If the child is fed with cow's milk, it is not appropriate to feed him whole milk, but skimmed milk. You can make skim milk at home. After the milk is boiled and cooled, use chopsticks to pick up the layer of milk skin on the surface and throw it away. Repeat this three times and you will have skim milk. However, once the baby's diarrhea improves, it is not advisable to feed skimmed milk to avoid malnutrition.

2. Food to stop diarrhea:

(1) Scorched rice soup: Grind rice flour or milk cake into powder, fry until it turns yellow, add appropriate amount of water and sugar, and then fry until it becomes a paste. When rice flour is added with water and then heated, it becomes dextrin. Dextrin is easily digestible, and its carbonized structure has a good adsorption and antidiarrheal effect.

2) Carrot soup: Carrots are alkaline foods. The pectin they contain can promote stool formation and absorb bacteria and toxins on the intestinal mucosa. It is a good antidiarrheal food. The preparation method is: wash the carrots, cut them in half, remove the stems, then cut them into small pieces, add water and boil them until they are soft, then filter out the residue with gauze, and finally add water (500 grams of carrots to 1000 grams of water) and sugar and bring to a boil.
