Heat in the liver and stomach is a relatively common symptom. It often causes patients to have gastric ketones, loss of appetite, indigestion, etc. Patients are often easily angry due to irritability, and will have symptoms such as red tongue with yellow coating, stringy pulse, etc., which often lead to pain in the upper and middle abdomen. At this time, you must pay attention to good conditioning. In addition to maintaining adequate rest and alleviating a bad mentality, you can appropriately improve it through some dietary therapy methods.

Symptoms of liver-stomach stagnation and heat include burning pain in the stomach, urgent pain, irritability, heartburn, and noisy sensation. The tongue is red with yellow coating, and the pulse is stringy and rapid. Stomach pain is pain in the upper abdomen. The stomach is a little bit below the left rib, that is, below the heart. However, there are many types of stomach diseases, and the symptoms are also different. Common stomach pain is usually caused by gastritis or gastric ulcer, and gastric ulcer is usually accompanied by acid reflux. The pain is in the left abdomen. If it is severe, the pain may occur on both sides.

The stomach is located in the upper left part of the abdominal cavity, most of it in the left hypochondrium and a small part in the upper abdomen. It is connected to the lower end of the esophagus above and to the duodenal bulb below. The junction with the esophagus is called the cardia, and the junction with the duodenal bulb is called the pylorus. The stomach spans the upper abdomen from left to right under the left diaphragm. The variation in the shape, size, and position of the stomach depends on body shape, body position, stomach wall tension, stomach expansion, and whether the stomach is compressed by adjacent organs.

When the stomach is emptied, the adjacent organs may be completely covered. When the stomach is full, most of the anterior wall of the stomach is in contact with the diaphragm, and part of the anterior wall of the stomach body is in direct contact with the anterior abdominal wall. The stomach has a large range of motion, and its position changes with body position, diaphragm movement, and changes in intrathoracic and intra-abdominal pressures. For example, the stomach can drop several centimeters during a deep inhalation, and the stomach can move upward when abdominal pressure increases.

Dietary prescription for treating liver and stomach heat

1. Honey for removing blood stasis and nourishing the liver

250 grams of hawthorn, 500 grams of salvia miltiorrhiza, 250 grams of wolfberry, 1000 grams of honey, and 60 grams of rock sugar. Soak the first three herbs for 2 hours and then boil them into liquid medicine. Add honey and sugar into the liquid medicine and boil it over low heat for 30 minutes. Remove from heat when the honey and liquid medicine are dissolved and become viscous. After cooling, pour into a container and seal it for storage. Take 1 spoon 3 times a day, mix with boiled water and drink. It can be taken continuously for 2 to 3 months.

2. Black bean and Chuanxiong porridge

25 grams of black beans, 10 grams of Chuanxiong, 50 grams of japonica rice, and 20 grams of brown sugar. Boil Chuanxiong in water and remove the residue. First add black beans and cook until done. Then add polished rice and cook into porridge. Add brown sugar and it’s done. Take for breakfast and dinner.

3. Prescriptions for treating liver and stomach heat

10g of Bupleurum, 15g of White Peony Root, 10g of Angelica Sinensis, 10g of Paeonia Suffruticosa, 10g of Gardenia Fructus, 10g of Atractylodes Macrocephala, 10g of Poria, 3g of Coptis chinensis, 6g of Evodia rutaecarpa, and 6g of Licorice. If there is excessive heat inside the body, it burns the stomach meridians and causes vomiting of blood, as well as burning pain in the abdomen, fullness, irritability, constipation, flushed face, red tongue, and a strong and stringy pulse. This is due to heat stagnation in the liver and stomach, which forces blood to flow abnormally. You can use the Xiexin Decoction (rhubarb, scutellaria, coptis chinensis) from the Golden Chamber to use the bitter and cold ingredients to dissipate heat and reduce fire. For stomach pain caused by liver-stomach heat stagnation, you can also choose Huagan Jian (qingpi, tangerine peel, moutan bark, peony root, gardenia, oriental water plantain, and wild fritillaria) and Zishui Qinggan Yin (shudiudui, cornus officinalis, poria, angelica, yam, moutan bark, oriental water plantain, bupleurum, white peony root, gardenia, and spiny jujube seed) according to the condition of the disease.
