What causes left shoulder pain?

Joint pain in the left shoulder is also quite common in life. There are many reasons for this pain. The most common one is joint disease. Rheumatoid arthritis, scapular muscle strain, etc. may all lead to this symptom. Of course, we should also be alert to some heart diseases, such as coronary heart disease, because stenosis or spasm of the coronary artery may also cause left shoulder joint pain.

What causes left shoulder pain?

1. Joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, periarthritis of the shoulder, scapular muscle strain, bursitis and tendonitis can cause shoulder pain. 2. Coronary heart disease Coronary heart disease is a heart disease caused by stenosis or spasm of the coronary arteries. Since pain in the shoulders, sternum, and left little finger is also transmitted to the brain through the sympathetic ganglia in front of the 1st to 5th thoracic vertebrae and the corresponding spinal nerves, the brain sometimes cannot distinguish whether the pain comes from the heart, the sternum, or the shoulders. Therefore, patients with coronary heart disease often experience shoulder pain, which sometimes even masks pain in other parts of the body. In addition to shoulder pain, patients with coronary heart disease generally also experience squeezing discomfort behind the sternum or in front of the heart. 3. Apex cancer When cancer occurs at the apex of the lung, the continuously developing cancerous tissue can compress or invade these nerve plexuses. For example, if it invades the brachial plexus, shoulder pain may occur. This pain is usually a burning pain that radiates mainly to the armpit and the inner side of the upper limb, especially at night. If the shoulder is severely stressed, it will also affect the movement of the shoulder and upper limbs.

4. The pain of cervical spondylosis is mostly numbness and pain, with a sensation radiating to the upper limbs and hands. In addition to the neck, the most common pain areas are mainly concentrated in the supraspinatus area, that is, the area above the clavicle, above the inner side of the acromion, and above the anterior part of the scapular spine. 5. The pain of frozen shoulder is persistent dull pain, and the pain often manifests as soreness and swelling. The pain is mostly located in the deltoid area, which is the area below the outside of the clavicle, below the outside of the acromion, and below the outside of the scapular spine. 6. Acute cervical radiculitis is more common in young and middle-aged people who work at a desk or work with their heads down for a long time. The onset is rapid, the pain is severe, and severe radicular pain is the main symptom. The pain radiates along the nerves to the shoulders, arms, and fingers, and may be accompanied by an electric shock-like numbness. 7. Cervical spinal cord tumors develop slowly, manifesting as severe radicular pain on one side. 8. The shoulder and arm pain caused by spinal arachnoiditis can be bilateral, with a long course and often worsening in fluctuations. 9. The common feature of cervical angina pectoris and angina pectoris is that both cause pain in the precordial area, which can radiate to the left shoulder, back and upper limbs, and may cause a feeling of squeezing or suffocation.

10. Shoulder pain from lung cancer is caused by compression of the brachial plexus by lung cancer metastasis, and may occur before respiratory symptoms such as cough, hemoptysis, and chest pain. 11. Right shoulder pain may be caused by cholecystitis, cholelithiasis or gallstones. Patients often have a history of recurrent attacks and can be diagnosed by B-ultrasound. Shoulder pain can be relieved by anti-infection, antispasmodic and analgesic treatment.
