Is liver palm disease serious?

A healthy lifestyle will keep people in good physical condition, and some small changes in daily life will prompt changes in our bodies. For these sudden and subtle little signals, can you understand their true meaning and deal with them in time? Do you know what palms are? Will liver disease be serious if you have palms? Today we will talk about things related to liver palm.

Palmar erythema is a common symptom of liver disease, and the symptoms of some diseases can easily be confused with palmar erythema. Understanding palms of the hand can help us better identify the disease and strive to treat palms of the hand as soon as possible.

The skin color of the palm and back of a normal person's palm is uniformly light red. The common locations of palmar erythema are the thenar eminence, hypothenar eminence, and palmar surfaces of fingers, where patchy congestion and the base of fingers appear with pink or rouge-like spots. Close observation reveals many dilated arterioles that become pale when pressurized. Generally, palmar erythema will improve as liver function improves. The liver governs the tendons, so in addition to liver palms, liver disease will also manifest on the nails. Liver disease generally manifests as raised ridges or downward depressions on the surface of the nails. This type of palm that is different from normal people is called liver palm. Most patients with cirrhosis are prone to palmar dysplasia.

1. Misunderstandings about Liver Palms

Patients with cirrhosis and chronic liver disease may develop palmar erythema, but those who develop palmar erythema do not necessarily have liver disease. Clinically, many healthy people have been found to have palmar erythema, but after years, decades, or even decades of observation, their liver function has been normal and no liver changes have ever occurred.

Therefore, for those with liver palms, they cannot be blindly diagnosed with liver disease. They should be combined with drinking history, metabolic disease history, physical examination, liver function test, Australia antigen (hepatitis B virus surface antigen), B-ultrasound, scanning and other tests and after comprehensive analysis and judgment, then the correct conclusion can be made.

2. Don’t trust the checklist

Liver disease experts remind that clinical symptoms and liver function tests are not absolute. The absence of symptoms does not mean that liver function is normal, and normal transaminase concentrations do not mean that the liver is not damaged. Liver function tests are actually just concepts in data. People who drink alcohol for a long time will inevitably suffer damage to the liver. It is difficult to repair it by the body's self-compensation alone, and some drugs are needed for treatment. Through the effects of drugs such as liver protection tablets, the liver damage caused by ethanol can be reduced, and free radicals and lipid peroxides can be removed, allowing liver cells to perform their decomposition function normally.

3. Diseases similar to liver palms

The symptoms of some diseases can easily be confused with palmar erythema, such as polycythemia vera. It is a myeloproliferative disease characterized by an increase in red blood cells, and its main symptoms include headache, tinnitus, fatigue, etc. The patient's skin and mucous membranes appear reddish purple, so it may be mistaken for palmar erythema.
