What should I pay attention to when my baby has lymph nodes?

It is quite common for babies to have swollen lymph nodes. It is easy to cause pain in the acute stage and the child is prone to fever. At this time, parents should pay special attention and give the child some anti-inflammatory drugs. If the condition is serious, the child can be treated with intravenous drip. Lymph nodes are very important for protecting children and can phagocytize bacteria and viruses. Generally, swollen lymph nodes are a cause for concern.

Does my baby need treatment for lymph node problems?

Lymph nodes play an important role in protecting children's health. The lymphocytes produced by the lymph nodes have immune functions and can filter, clear and phagocytize bacteria in the lymphatic vessels. Lymph nodes are a component of the human lymphatic system. They are composed of lymphatic tissue and reticuloendothelial cells, distributed throughout the body, and connected by lymphatic vessels. The lymphatic system of children is not fully developed at birth. It develops most vigorously in the first ten years after birth, especially in early childhood. Therefore, it is difficult to touch the lymph nodes in newborns. However, generally healthy infants and young children can often feel single, soft or slightly hard, non-tender lymph nodes the size of mung bean to soybean on the superficial surface of the neck, under the jaw, behind the occipital bone, in front of the ears, in the groin, etc. This is a physiological phenomenon.

What should I pay attention to when my baby has lymph nodes?

1. Check your baby's swollen lymph nodes in time

Local lymph node enlargement reflects inflammation of the tissue in the corresponding area. For example, scalp infection can cause enlargement of the occipital lymph nodes and the lymph nodes behind the ear; external otitis can cause enlargement of the lymph nodes in front of and behind the ear; tonsillitis, gingivitis, and dental caries can cause enlargement of the submandibular lymph nodes; inflammation of the lower limbs can cause enlargement of the inguinal lymph nodes, etc. When the inflammation is severe, the swollen lymph nodes are obviously tender. If the inflammation cannot be controlled, the infection can spread to the whole body. Tuberculous lymphadenitis should also be considered in the case of local lymph node enlargement. The enlarged lymph nodes are commonly found in the neck and submandibular area, and are often beaded in shape. Diseases that may cause swollen lymph nodes throughout the body include: sepsis, leukemia, lymphoma, infectious diseases (such as rubella), hemolytic anemia, etc. No matter which part of the lymph nodes are swollen, it is recommended that you take your baby to the hospital for examination in time so that symptomatic treatment can be given.

2. Which lymph nodes are abnormal in babies?

What you need to be vigilant about are abnormal changes in lymph nodes. It is generally believed that when the diameter of the lymph nodes in the neck and armpits exceeds 1 cm and the diameter of the groin area exceeds 1.5 cm, the lymph nodes are considered abnormally swollen. Many children will find swollen lymph nodes after a cold or fever. When the lymph nodes continue to swell and do not subside, or the lymph nodes increase rapidly within a week or two, or several lymph nodes fuse into a mass and become very hard, fixed and unable to slide, or the child also has other physical symptoms, then you need to be careful. It is best to see a doctor to check to see if there is a problem and what the cause is, and then decide whether to treat it.
