What should pregnant mothers do if they have varicose veins on their feet?

Pregnant women are prone to varicose veins during pregnancy, which is also quite common in life. It is mainly due to changes in body weight and limited activity, which may lead to the occurrence of varicose veins. Pregnant women should not sit for long periods of time. Moderate exercise is very good for the body. In addition, they should control their weight and try to eat less greasy food. They can also wear elastic stockings to improve the condition.

What to do if you have varicose veins on your feet

1. Exercise every day.

Even just taking a walk around your neighborhood can help improve blood circulation in the body and prevent varicose veins.

2. Control your weight.

At every stage of pregnancy, expectant mothers should try to maintain their weight within the recommended range.

3. Raise your lower limbs.

Whenever possible, lift your own legs and feet. When sitting, you can use a stool or box to prop up your legs; when lying down, you can use a pillow to elevate your feet. When sitting, expectant mothers should not put one leg or one foot on top of another leg or foot, as this will cause poor blood circulation in the pressed leg/foot. Expectant mothers should not sit or stand for a long time. They should move around after maintaining a posture for a period of time.

4. Lie on your left side.

When sleeping, expectant mothers should lie on their left side with their feet on the pillow. Place a pillow behind your back and lean to your left side. Because the inferior vena cava is on the right side, lying on the left side can reduce the pressure of the uterus on the veins, thereby reducing the venous pressure on the legs and feet.

5. Wear elastic socks.

Wear special elastic stockings for varicose veins during pregnancy. These socks are also called medical graduated decompression stockings. They start from the ankles and go up along the legs, gradually reducing the pressure on the legs. They are very effective and can be purchased at pharmacies or maternity clothing stores. Twice as thick as regular pantyhose, these stockings are tight at the ankle and become looser as they go up the leg, making it easier for blood to flow back up to the heart.

Therefore, special varicose vein elastic stockings for pregnant women can prevent swelling and prevent varicose veins from becoming more serious. The expectant mother can put on these stockings while she is still lying in bed before getting up in the morning to prevent blood from accumulating in her legs. Wearing these elastic stockings all day may be troublesome for expectant mothers, especially in hot weather, but don't forget that severe varicose veins can make you feel even more uncomfortable.
