Stuffy nose with blood

Stuffy nose with blood

We often encounter the phenomenon of nasal congestion, such as catching a cold or catching a chill. But if in addition to stuffiness, there is also blood, it may be caused by a disease, the most common of which are rhinitis, sinusitis, etc. There are many reasons for this, and we must have a comprehensive understanding so that we can make a better diagnosis. So, what's the matter with a stuffy nose and blood?

1. Rhinitis: Nasal congestion is the most common symptom of rhinitis. Nasal congestion caused by acute rhinitis can disappear on its own in about a week. Nasal congestion in chronic simple rhinitis is mostly paroxysmal or alternating. Nasal congestion in chronic hypertrophic rhinitis is mostly persistent. Nasal congestion in allergic rhinitis varies in severity and can be unilateral or bilateral, intermittent or persistent, or alternating.

2. Sinusitis: Chronic sinusitis can cause nasal congestion and yellow purulent nasal discharge, which may be accompanied by headache, dizziness, memory loss, etc. The purulent nasal discharge may last for a long time after a cold and may not improve. Sinusitis can coexist with nasal polyps.

3. Nasal polyps: Nasal congestion caused by nasal polyps is usually persistent and progressive, and can be unilateral or bilateral. Symptoms of allergic rhinitis may occur.

4. Deviated nasal septum: Nasal congestion caused by deviated nasal septum is mostly unilateral, but can also be bilateral, and is more common in young people. It often manifests as persistent nasal congestion, which may have symptoms of sinusitis, and may also occur with other nasal diseases such as allergic rhinitis.

5. Sinus cysts: The nasal congestion caused by sinus cysts is often progressive and may cause symptoms such as yellow watery discharge from the nasal cavity. Dizziness may also occur.

6. Sinus tumors: Nasal congestion caused by sinus tumors is usually progressive, unilateral or bilateral, and may cause other complications, such as nose bleeding.

Be alert to the possibility of malignant tumors. If you also have stuffy ears, a mass in the neck, blood in your nasal discharge, you may also be aware of the possibility of nasopharyngeal cancer.
