Why do I have a lot of dry mucus?

Some people always have a runny nose, but over time the mucus will stick to the mucous membrane and cause the nose to become very dry. It needs to be cleaned regularly with toilet paper and washed with saline to prevent dry and hard nasal mucus from causing nose bleeding. This does not rule out the possibility that it is caused by rhinitis. You need to actively go to the hospital to check the cause and treat it according to the results of the examination.

Examination and diagnosis of dry and painful nostrils: 1. Symptoms and signs

1. Early stage (prodromal stage): about 1 to 2 days, mostly manifested as general body soreness, dryness and burning sensation in the nose and nasopharynx, and congestion and dryness of the nasal mucosa. The diagnosis and differentiation of acute rhinitis should be distinguished from the precursor symptoms of certain infectious diseases, such as influenza, measles, scarlet fever, hemorrhagic fever, etc., because these diseases often begin with the symptoms of acute rhinitis, and are known as "acute infectious rhinitis", so attention should be paid. It must also be differentiated from allergic rhinitis. In case of acute rhinitis, avoid blowing your nose forcefully to prevent the inflammation from spreading and causing otitis media or sinusitis.

2. Acute stage (wet stage): about 2-7 days, gradually with nasal congestion, increased nasal secretions, sneezing and nasal itching, closed nasal voice when speaking, and decreased sense of smell. The nasal mucosa is obviously congested and swollen, and the nasal cavity is filled with mucous or mucopurulent secretions, which may turn into pus. There are varying degrees of fever, headache, etc. throughout the body.

3. Late stage (recovery stage): Nasal congestion gradually eases and purulent mucus also decreases. If no complications occur, the disease will heal on its own after a few days. Complications of inflammation may also spread downward, causing inflammation of the throat, trachea, and lungs.

2. Differential Diagnosis

1. Pain in the nose: Pain in the nose is caused by dryness and rupture of the nasal mucosa, and may be accompanied by nose bleeding. Nasal pain is also one of the symptoms of nasal cancer.

2. Sinus tenderness: Sinusitis causes nasal congestion, runny nose, headache and sinus tenderness. Patients with acute sinusitis may experience fever and general discomfort. Examination with a nasal endoscope or nasal endoscope may reveal congestion and swelling of the nasal mucosa, purulent secretions in the middle nasal meatus or olfactory fissure, and tenderness in the corresponding sinus areas.
