Enlarged thyroid gland in women

Enlarged thyroid gland in women

Both men and women have thyroid glands. This is a part of the human body located at the neck. Generally speaking, only a small number of people will have problems with the thyroid gland. The main thyroid disease is enlarged thyroid gland, which is a big neck disease. This can be treated with some special methods. There are many reasons for enlarged thyroid gland, and special attention should be paid after it occurs. So what should women do if their thyroid gland is enlarged?

Thyroid disease will cause a swollen neck, so you need to go to the hospital for a check-up first. The swelling is mostly caused by diet, lifestyle habits, and endocrine disorders. The swelling is generally a sign of inflammation in the thyroid gland. If the inflammation is severe, it can easily damage the tissues in the thyroid gland, so you should not rush or be careless.

This situation is more common in inflammatory diseases of the thyroid gland, such as acute, subacute and chronic (Hashimoto's) thyroiditis. The former has obvious symptoms of infection, such as thyroid pain, fever and swelling. It is mostly due to bacterial infection; the latter generally does not feel anything, it is mostly due to viral infection; it is recommended to do a thyroid hormone test (T3T4TSH) to prevent complications of hyperthyroidism or addition or subtraction.

Iodine is an element that has a great impact on the thyroid gland, so the iodine intake in the diet must be controlled. Foods with high iodine content in daily life include kelp, seaweed, and some seafood.

Patients should increase the amount of protein and eat more meat, eggs and other foods. In addition, because of hyperthyroidism, the patient's metabolic rate increases, so it is necessary to pay attention to replenishing calories. However, due to the increase in calories, vitamin B group deficiency occurs, so you should pay attention to supplement it.

Patients should not eat irritating foods, such as alcohol, chili peppers, peppercorns, strong tea, etc. You are also not allowed to eat foods that increase inflammation, such as beef, dog meat, shrimp, carp, etc. In addition, foods that may cause thyroid enlargement, such as cabbage, peanuts, and potatoes, should not be eaten.

It is recommended to check the thyroid hormone level to see if there is a possibility of hyperthyroidism. If you have hyperthyroidism, you need systematic drug treatment. Of course, if the effect is not ideal, you can also choose I131 treatment and surgical treatment.
