What to do if your newborn baby has dry skin? These tips will save you from worry!

When the weather turns cooler in autumn and winter, the baby's skin will become dry and prone to allergies and itching. These symptoms can easily cause skin infections in babies. Especially on the face, when it is serious, dryness and cracking may occur. When these conditions occur, how can we protect our baby’s skin?

1. Skin care water temperature should be appropriate

In winter, infants and young children are significantly less active than in summer, so their sweating and sebum secretion are not as vigorous. For children, washing their face once or twice a day is enough, and be careful not to use too high a water temperature. Repeatedly washing your baby's hands and bathing them, especially using hand soap and shower gel frequently, and using too high water temperature and alkaline products can easily wash away the oil on the child's skin, causing the baby's skin to become dry, cracked, red, and itchy.

2. Choose skin care products suitable for infants and young children

In fact, for infants and young children, clean water is actually the best cleanser. When choosing facial or body cleaning products for infants and young children, you should first choose products with simpler functions. The fewer functions other than cleaning, the better. Especially avoid products with sterilization functions, so as not to irritate the child's delicate skin and cause allergies. In addition, the pediatric departments of large hospitals generally prepare some products such as vitamin E cream or silicone cream for infants and young children. These things are best used when the face still maintains a certain degree of moisture after washing.

3. Prepare hand cream suitable for your baby

If you find that your baby's hands are wrinkled, the mother can first soak the baby's hands in warm water (slightly hotter) for a few minutes. After the chapped skin on the baby's hands softens, use non-irritating soap to wash off the dirt on the baby's hands. After drying the hands, apply hand cream. It doesn't hurt to apply more. Keep soaking until it's healed. In addition, you should remind your baby to wipe his hands clean if they have water on them before going out, and to apply hand cream and wear gloves to prevent wrinkles and cracks.

4. Take timely care of frostbite

If the baby gets frostbite on his hands and feet, the mother can give the baby a massage first: rub, massage and press the red and swollen areas with your hands, first lightly and then heavily, to help the redness and swelling disappear. Do it 2-3 times a day, 10 minutes each time. When massaging, avoid scratching with your fingers to avoid damaging the skin and causing ulcers. If your baby's frostbite has broken, you can apply external medication as prescribed by your doctor.

5. Pay attention to moisturizing your baby’s lips

If you find that your baby's lips are chapped, you can first apply a small dry and cold towel on the baby's lips to allow the lip mucosa to fully absorb moisture, and then apply some lip balm or sesame oil. In winter, make sure to give your baby more warm water as his skin will be itchy. You can also supplement vitamin B2 and vitamin C appropriately. If you see your baby licking his lips frequently, parents should stop him in time and tell him that doing so will make his lips chapped even more.

6. Take vitamin supplements in time

Generally speaking, babies who are picky eaters and don't like to eat fruits and vegetables are more likely to have symptoms of rough, dry and itchy skin. That's because vitamins and minerals can keep the skin delicate and moisturized. Mothers can appropriately supplement their babies with vitamin B2 and vitamin C, which is very helpful for the skin. You can also add nutrient-rich foods such as carrots to your baby's weekly diet, which can also effectively supplement vitamins.

7. Humidify the house

In winter, heating is usually turned on indoors, and the dry air can make the skin particularly dry. The tender skin of infants and young children is particularly sensitive to dry environments, so attention should also be paid to properly arrange the indoor humidity. It is more effective to turn on the air humidifier indoors in winter. Mothers can also put a basin of clean water in the room, or mop the floor occasionally. Placing a few pots of green leafy plants in the room is also a simple and easy way to moisturize.

8. Choose cotton underwear

Underwear is the most intimate contact with your baby. To ensure the baby's skin is healthy and prevent various allergic symptoms, the selection of baby's underwear is very important. Chemical fiber fabrics are irritating to baby's skin and can easily cause allergies such as dermatitis and itching. Generally speaking, cotton clothes that are easy to put on and take off are the best choice. Loose clothing can keep the baby's skin breathing smoothly, while too tight underwear will make the baby feel very uncomfortable and hinder the healthy breathing of the skin.
