What to do if your eyes are hit by welding?

When welders are operating welding, if they are not careful, the welding may hit their eyes. At this time, the patient will experience tears in the wind, red and swollen eyes, etc. When this happens, you should immediately apply cold water to the eyes and change it several times. One of the best ways is to use human milk to drop into the eyes. This has the best effect. If there is no human milk, fresh milk is also a good choice.

What to do if your eyes are hit by welding?

The key to treating photoelectric ophthalmia is analgesia, sedation and infection prevention.

1. Apply cold compress to the eyes, ask the patient to close his eyes, and then apply a cold towel to the eyes.

2. Use fresh human milk to drip into the eyes, 3-5 drops into each affected eye. Do not open your eyes immediately after dripping the milk, close your eyes for 3-5 minutes, and drip once every 2 hours.

3. Use chloramphenicol eye drops, erythromycin eye ointment and other eye drops to prevent infection.

Human milk, eye drops and eye ointments cannot be instilled at the same time. There should be a slight interval between them. Tinted glasses should be worn during treatment. The key to photoelectric conjunctivitis is prevention. Electric welders must follow operating procedures and wear protective eyewear. Most patients recover within 1-3 days after onset, and generally no permanent damage is caused. However, avoid being injured by ultraviolet rays multiple times or for a long time to avoid causing chronic blepharitis.

What are the symptoms of electric welding hitting the eyes?

After an eye injury from electric welding, the injured will experience symptoms such as eye pain, tearing, and sand in the eyes (feeling similar to trachoma). Mild cases can be cured in a day and a half through effective treatment with relevant anti-inflammatory drugs, while severe cases may take many days to recover (during this period, the victim will be unable to open their eyes and will be afraid of light). Those with serious eye injuries from electric welding need to go to the hospital for regular, reasonable and effective treatment, so electric welders and people watching welding must take effective, legal and reasonable safety protection measures.

If you look at the welding arc for a long time without wearing protective glasses, your eyes will be irritated by the strong ultraviolet rays in the arc, causing photoelectric conjunctivitis, which is commonly referred to as the arc "hitting" your eyes.

The main symptoms of photoelectric conjunctivitis are eye pain, tearing, and fear of light. It takes about 2-10 hours from the time the eyes are exposed to the arc light to the onset of symptoms. If photoelectric conjunctivitis leads to secondary infection and causes corneal ulcer, there will be corneal opacity after recovery, affecting vision.

If photoelectric conjunctivitis occurs, go to the hospital for treatment and use 4% novocaine eye drops, the symptoms will be relieved quickly. However, photoelectric conjunctivitis mostly occurs at night and at home. Knowing the necessary first aid measures can alleviate the pain.
