The difference between prosthesis and expanded body

The difference between prosthesis and expanded body

With the development of society, people's requirements for beauty are getting higher and higher, especially for female friends, love of beauty is natural. With the rapid development of science and technology and the prevalence of beauty salons and plastic surgery clinics, many women who are not satisfied with their faces will undergo plastic surgery to make their faces more in line with modern aesthetics. Now that we are talking about plastic surgery, many women don’t particularly understand the professional terms involved. Today, let’s talk about the difference between prostheses and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene.

1. Security

Both are medical consumables. Silicone is mostly used in facial filling surgery, while expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is mostly used in heart bypass surgery. They are classified in the same way in terms of safety levels.

Misconception: Many people think that silicone is safer and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is a time bomb that can cause infection at any time. Putting aside the perspective of doctor's skills, judging from the materials alone, there is no clinical data to support that expanded polytetrafluoroethylene has a higher infection rate. However, due to the good bio-tissue compatibility of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, once an infection occurs, the symptoms are very fast and obvious, and the consequences are relatively serious, leading many people to feel that the infection rate of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is high and unsafe.

2. Texture

Compared with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, silicone has a harder texture, which makes the nose look fake visually. Silicone material is transparent and causes light to pass through. Especially those who want to look photogenic should consider this carefully, as expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is more natural. Compared with silicone, good silicone is relatively soft and has a better effect. It has a low compression ratio (the silicone will become thinner as it recovers) and is relatively easy to control the height of the bridge of the nose. Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene also has a compression ratio.

3. Biological characteristics

The surface of silicone is smooth, while the surface of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is a microporous structure. It is because of this structure and the body's rejection reaction that a capsule will form on the surface of the prosthesis. Due to the surface structural characteristics of silicone, capsular contracture is easily formed (like a polished rubber stick and a rubber stick with a rough surface). As time goes on, downward movement becomes inevitable, and some even become crooked. Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene has good bio-tissue compatibility and will not sag or crooked (patients with rhinitis or rosacea who seek beauty treatments should be cautious when using expanded polytetrafluoroethylene).

4. Effect

Silicone is suitable for those who have particularly flat noses and like high noses. The noses made by silicone are straight, unnatural, and relatively fake. Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is suitable for those who have a certain foundation in noses. The effect is real and natural, and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene is more like icing on the cake.

5. Doctor

Silicone is relatively stable and easy to use, and can be said to be an entry-level prosthetic product for rhinoplasty. However, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene has higher requirements on surgeon carving, aseptic processing, and hospital hardware conditions than expanded polytetrafluoroethylene. This is also a factor why many small institutions dare not promote expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, not just because it is expensive.
