What to do if you have a fever of 39 degrees due to mumps

Mumps is generally more common in children and adolescents. It is mainly caused by respiratory tract infection. Generally speaking, patients with mumps will experience pain and swelling in the parotid glands. Some children with low resistance may also experience fever symptoms. So, what should you do if mumps causes a fever of 39 degrees? Experts recommend that the patient be cooled down promptly and sent to the hospital for treatment.

If there are symptoms of high fever, physical cooling methods can usually be used. Putting a cooling patch on the patient's forehead or applying an ice towel to the forehead can have a good cooling effect. However, in addition to these methods, the patient can take some Angong Niuhuang Pills, which have a better cooling effect.

Most patients with mumps will experience symptoms of local parotid swelling and pain. This series of symptoms can usually be treated with some external medications. Patients can be given some heat-clearing and detoxifying drugs. In rural areas, patients can usually be given some cactus.

Cactus is a relatively common plant, but it has the effect of clearing away heat, detoxifying and reducing swelling. Therefore, you can remove the thorns of the cactus and then mash it. It is best to mix it with egg white and then apply it directly to the affected area. Applying it once a day for 3 consecutive days will have a better therapeutic effect.

Note:

Mumps is a relatively common disease and is contagious, so if you find someone around you has mumps, you must isolate and treat them. You should also be careful about your diet and not eat irritating foods.

treat

1. Suppurative parotitis

(1) Treat the cause and correct the balance of water, electrolytes, and acid and base.

(2) Select effective antimicrobial drugs and empirically use large doses of penicillin or first- and second-generation cephalosporins and other anti-Gram-positive cocci antibiotics. Take pus from the parotid duct orifice for bacterial culture and drug sensitivity, and adjust sensitive antibiotics based on drug sensitivity.

(3) Other conservative treatments: hot compress, physical therapy, external application, etc. can be used in the early stages of inflammation. Mouthwashes such as sodium bicarbonate solution and Oral can help control inflammation.

(4) When conservative medical treatment is ineffective and the disease develops into suppuration, incision and drainage are required.

2. Mumps

(1) Isolation and bed rest until the parotid swelling completely subsides. Pay attention to oral hygiene, avoid acidic foods, and ensure fluid intake.

(2) Symptomatic treatment is the main approach; antibiotics are ineffective. Ribavirin can be tried. There are reports that interferon seems to be effective.

(3) There is no definite effect of adrenal cortical hormone treatment. It can be considered for short-term use in severe cases or complications such as meningoencephalitis, myocarditis, etc.

(4) Local irradiation with helium-neon laser in the treatment of mumps has a certain effect on relieving pain and swelling.

(5) Male adult patients should use diethylstilbestrol in the early stages of the disease to prevent the occurrence of orchitis.

(6) Traditional Chinese Medicine: For internal use, the Puji Xiaodu Yin prescription is used as the main prescription, with modifications based on symptoms. For local application, you can use Zijin Tablet or Qingdai Powder mixed with vinegar and apply it externally once a day.
