Medically, pain is divided into 12 levels : Level 1: mosquito bites; Level 2: surgery after anesthesia; Level 3: friendly flirting between lovers; Level 4: beating and scolding from parents out of frustration; Level 5: slapping with a slap, leaving a red palm print; Level 6: gastroenteritis and stomach pain caused by poor diet; Level 7: beating with a stick, leaving black and purple marks; Level 8: large-area bleeding injuries caused by various means; Level 9: physical pain, such as the tiger bench, bamboo sticks, red irons and other ten tortures of the Qing Dynasty; Level 10: causing limb disability, such as having a finger blown off by an injury in battle; Level 11: visceral pain; Level 12: the feeling of a mother giving birth.

When do kidney stones cause pain?

In terms of symptoms, kidney stones may exist for a long time without any symptoms, especially if the stones are larger. Smaller stones have a larger range of movement. When small stones enter the ureteropelvic junction or ureter, they cause violent peristalsis of the ureter to promote the excretion of stones, resulting in colic and hematuria. The pain caused by kidney stones can be divided into dull pain and cramping pain.

The pain is often located in the waist and abdomen, and is mostly paroxysmal, but can also be continuous pain. Some pain may only manifest as soreness and discomfort in the lower back, and activities or labor may also cause the pain to occur or worsen.

How painful are kidney stones? It hurts so much. I remember that someone once summarized a pain classification. At the top are the three major pains for humans. One is childbirth, one is toothache, and the last one is kidney stones.

Generally, if you go to the hospital and the pain is due to kidney stones, the doctor will write "renal colic" on the medical record. I think the word "拗" (twisted) is particularly vivid. It should be noted that many people are found to have kidney stones during physical examinations, but in fact, if the stones stay in the kidneys, they will not hurt.

Clinically, kidney stones are generally divided into four categories: calcium stones, infectious stones, uric acid stones and cystine stones. Among them, 80% of kidney stones are calcium stones, the main components of which are calcium oxalate and calcium phosphate; infectious stones account for about 10%, the main component of which is ammonium magnesium phosphate; and uric acid stones account for about 10%.

When the human body ingests too many stone components from food, which exceeds the body's metabolic capacity, and the influence of pathogenic factors such as infection, oliguria, and urine acid-base imbalance causes calcium oxalate, calcium phosphate, or uric acid to become oversaturated, crystals to precipitate, or crystals to grow larger, the risk of kidney stones formation is greatly increased.
