The foreskin is swollen

The foreskin is swollen

The phenomenon of swelling of the foreskin is medically called foreskin edema. The causes are related to neglect of genital hygiene, overly rough masturbation, and long-term foreskin incarceration. Because there are many possible reasons for the swelling of the foreskin, we should judge according to our own situation and common causes and solve it as soon as possible. So, what is the cause of the swollen foreskin? Let’s take a look below.

Causes

1. Infectious factors

The coronal sulcus and foreskin have a history of laser or electrocautery surgery, resulting in postoperative infection; or other reasons lead to bacterial infection of the foreskin and edema.

2. Allergic factors

Including mosquito bites, applying medications or using contraceptive devices, etc.

3. Physical factors

These include abrasions during sexual intercourse, long-term foreskin inversion and incarceration, excessive washing, and violent trauma.

4. Others

It includes edema caused by chronic balanoposthitis and edema of unknown cause after unclean sexual behavior.

Clinical manifestations

The foreskin swells up like a swimming ring around the coronal sulcus, or wraps around the glans penis and swells like a hemisphere. In severe cases, the surface becomes translucent. Some patients also have coronary sulcus ulcers, erosions, and yellow purulent secretions.

diagnosis

The diagnosis is mainly based on medical history, clinical manifestations and combined with etiological examination.

complication

Balanitis can easily lead to urethritis, prostatitis, orchitis, epididymitis and vas deferens, etc.

treat

1. General treatment

(1) Keep the area clean and dry, avoid various irritations, and clean the glans and foreskin daily.

(2) Avoid unclean sexual behavior and suspend sexual life during treatment. If it is trichomoniasis or candidal balanitis, both husband and wife should be treated at the same time.

(3) Eat less spicy food and avoid smoking and drinking.

2. Treatment of the cause

For infectious edema, actively treat the infected wound and apply antibacterial drugs systemically; for allergic edema, use antihistamines, glucocorticoids and other drugs systemically.

3. Symptomatic treatment

Edema caused by physical factors can be treated according to symptoms, including surgical removal of incarceration and treatment of traumatic wounds.

4. Traditional Chinese Medicine Treatment

Traditional Chinese medicine has a good effect in treating this disease. The general treatment principle is to clear away heat and detoxify, and to astringe and reduce swelling.
