Will a torn ligament heal on its own?

Ligament tear occurs when the joint moves beyond its range, causing the related ligaments to tear or rupture. There are usually also symptoms of sprain and fracture, which will limit normal function. There are many solutions to ligament rupture, and they should be treated according to the situation. Recovery will be quick if combined with rehabilitation exercises. So, will a torn ligament heal on its own? Let’s take a closer look below.

Will a torn ligament heal on its own?

The main clinical manifestations of interspinous ligament injury include obvious history of trauma, low back pain immediately after the trauma, pain and tenderness located in the middle between the two spinous processes, and the pain is aggravated by heavy pressure. The pain may worsen after exertion or when bending over, and may be temporarily relieved after rest. After novocain blocks the local pain point, the pain is temporarily relieved, and the tenderness remains the same after the drug effect disappears. The lumbar flexion function is limited. After the pain point is blocked, a lateral radiograph in the lumbar spine flexion state may show widening of the interspinous space, and angiography of the lumbar interspinous ligament may reveal partial rupture, complete rupture, relaxation or perforation. Although lumbar interspinous ligament angiography has a certain reference value, the incidence of lesions but normal angiography is as high as 70%.

Physical therapy for torn ligaments

Acupuncture knife treatment

The patient lies prone, the interspinous lesions are identified, and marked with gentian violet. Routinely disinfect the skin, use a No. 4 needle knife, and follow the four-step needle insertion method. The incision line is inserted parallel to the longitudinal axis of the spine, with a depth of 3cm to 4cm. A longitudinal incision is made and peeled off. Then the needle body is tilted upward and downward to make 1 to 2 longitudinal incisions and peels off along the sagittal plane of the spinous process at the lower edge of the superior spinous process and the upper edge of the inferior spinous process. Remove the needle knife and add cupping, bleeding 2ml to 20ml, and apply a Band-Aid after removing the cup. For those with slight lumbar vertebrae displacement, the lumbar oblique lever technique can be used to correct the position. Treatment should be given once every 5 to 6 days, and twice at most.

Acupuncture

The main acupoint is Ashi point (tender point between spinous processes), combined with Yaoshu point. The patient lies prone and a 2.0-inch filiform needle is used to first insert a needle straight between the diseased spinous processes, then insert a needle obliquely in the midline direction 1 inch away from both sides, about 1.5 inches deep, and then insert the needle horizontally 1 to 1.5 inches upward from the Yaoshu point. After lifting, inserting and twisting to obtain qi, connect to the G6805 therapeutic device, which uses alternating high-frequency continuous waves and sparse and dense waves. Acupuncture treatment started on the second day after the acupotomy treatment, once a day, 5 times as a course of treatment, and the second course of treatment was carried out after a 2-day rest.

The treatment results showed that 114 cases were cured (pain disappeared, waist movement was normal, and no recurrence was found during the one-year follow-up); 22 cases were markedly effective (symptoms basically disappeared, but there was discomfort after fatigue or cold, or recurrence occurred within one year after being cured); 6 cases were effective (symptoms were alleviated, but recurred after fatigue and were alleviated after further treatment); and there was no effect (symptoms did not alleviate after one course of treatment).
