What to do if your child has two layers of teeth

During the period of tooth replacement, many children will encounter the situation where their deciduous teeth are reluctant to fall out, but the new teeth are in a hurry and want to "replace" the old teeth, resulting in the child growing two layers of teeth. Generally speaking, when encountering this situation, all you have to do is remove the old teeth in time and leave space for the new teeth to grow. But do you know why children have two sets of teeth?

What is the reason?

There are many reasons why children have two layers of teeth, mainly due to the following factors:

①. The food is too refined: Life lies in movement, and so do teeth. The main function of teeth is to chew food, but food is too fine to provide physiological stimulation to deciduous teeth. Teeth cannot get "exercise", resulting in poor jaw development. Permanent teeth cannot make way for deciduous teeth and can only "find another way out".

②. Calcium deficiency: Calcium deficiency will affect the shedding of deciduous teeth, the growth of new teeth, and cause double rows of teeth.

③. Lesions in deciduous teeth: When teeth are replaced, if caries occurs in deciduous teeth, in severe cases it will cause root absorption disorders of deciduous teeth, resulting in the failure of deciduous teeth to fall out in time. This creates a "double-layered" situation.

Therefore, children should eat more fibrous foods with high toughness (celery, corn, apples, jellyfish, beef, peanuts, etc.), especially nutritious whole grains, eat less overly refined foods, supplement calcium appropriately, and avoid eating foods with high concentrations of vitamin A, because vitamin A can inhibit the absorption of calcium. Babies who are used to eating liver should stop eating it for a while (liver contains the most vitamin A).

The harm of double teeth should not be underestimated and should be checked and treated as soon as possible.

If you allow double rows of teeth to grow, firstly, it is unsightly, and secondly, it affects the child's health (it is not conducive to dental hygiene, it is easy to form dental calculus, and it may also induce oral inflammatory diseases such as caries, pulpitis, and apical periodontitis).

Therefore, if a child has two teeth, we should deal with it as soon as possible.

Sharpen your teeth before the battle - During the period of replacing baby teeth, you can often chew some sugar-free gum to "sharpen your teeth before the battle" so that the baby teeth can fall out naturally and avoid dental problems caused by long-term retention of baby teeth.

Wait for them to fall out - Parents don't need to worry too much when their children have two layers of teeth. Most of the deciduous teeth can fall out one after another, and the misplaced permanent teeth can automatically return to normal.

Extracting deciduous teeth - If the deciduous teeth do not fall out for a long time, you need to take your child to the dental hospital and ask the dentist to extract the deciduous teeth that are "keeping their post". It won't take long for the misplaced permanent teeth to adjust to their normal position during the growth and development process and under the action of periodontal tissues.

Orthodontic treatment - retained deciduous teeth should be extracted as early as possible. If the child's teeth are still crooked after the age of 13, you can take the child to the dental clinic for orthodontic treatment. The earlier the teeth are corrected, the better.

If you want your child to have good teeth, not only should your child pay attention to his or her diet, it is also important to take care of his or her teeth and receive regular oral and dental examinations. Taking care of teeth should start from infancy.
