The pineal gland is located between the anterior colliculus and the thalamus in the diencephalon. It is a reddish-brown bean-shaped body. It is a gray-red oval body with a length of 5 to 8 mm and a width of 3 to 5 mm, weighing 120 to 200 mg. It is located at the top of the third ventricle, so it is also called the epiphysis. One end of the epiphysis is connected to the top of the third ventricle by a thin stalk, and the third ventricle bulges into the stalk to form the pineal recess.

Clinical manifestations : 1. Increased intracranial pressure: headache, vomiting, and may also cause visual impairment and abducens nerve palsy, etc. 2. Inability to look up, hearing impairment 3. Unsteady gait, slow coordination 4. Diabetes insipidus 5. Germ cell tumors may manifest as precocious puberty; pineal cell tumors manifest as stagnation or agenesis of sexual characteristics. Treatment: Tumors in this area should be treated comprehensively: conventional radiotherapy, gamma knife therapy, drug therapy, and surgical treatment; biopsy methods for clear pathology include stereotactic biopsy and neuroendoscopic biopsy.

Tumor classification (I) Histological classification 1. Germ cell tumors: germ cell tumor, teratoma, embryonal cell tumor, choriocarcinoma 2. Pineal cell tumors: pineocytoma, pineoblastoma 3. Other cell-derived tumors: glioma, meningioma, etc. 4. Cysts: including simple cysts, dermoid cysts, etc. Among them, germ cell tumors are the most common, reaching 60% to 80%, followed by pineal cell tumors. (B) According to radiosensitivity, they are divided into highly sensitive ones , including germ cell tumors, pinealoblastoma, etc.; moderately sensitive ones include glioma, pinealocyte tumor; insensitive ones include teratoma, cyst, meningioma, among which highly sensitive ones are more common, reaching 75% to 80%.
