Are Yunling and Fuling the same?

Are Yunling and Fuling the same?

Yunling refers specifically to the coix seeds grown from Masson pine in Yunnan Province. Because the pine resin content is higher than that of the fir in the northern part of Yunnan Province, our ancestors believed that the coix seeds grown there were of good quality. Some old doctors still think so today.

Because of Mr. Lu Xun's noble influence and some criticisms in traditional Chinese medicine, many research laboratories compared the ingredients of Yunling and coix seeds produced in other places, and found nothing unique. Nowadays it is commonly known as coix seed.

In addition, previously alone coix seed was divided into various specifications such as individual Poria, x-ray slices, shaved slices, white slices, red slices, white blocks, red blocks, dice squares, broken Poria, Poria powder, Poria peel, Huoshen, Shen block, and Shenmu. In recent years, the laboratory has conducted pharmacological and pharmaceutical tests, and clinical nursing observations on all these specifications, and found that there is not much difference in the use of various product specifications, so they have gradually been simplified to coix seed and Poria peel.

Simplified ingredients (no need for lab stuff here, too much)

Contains coix seed sugar, coix seed acid, quercetin acid, scutellaria acid, pinocytic acid, ergosterol, etc.

Medicinal value (also the key aspects)

1. Abdominal injection of coix seed extract or administration of alcohol extract into ear vein both have a diuretic effect on normal rabbits, and the diuretic effect of coix seed is related to the potassium salt contained in it.

2. Alcohol extract has the effect of causing the blood sugar level of rabbits to rise first and then decrease.

3. Coix seed decoction has a calming effect on experimental mice, and the calming effect of coix seed is second only to Poria.

4. Coix seed has a preventive effect on experimental ulcers in rats.

5. Poria extract and tincture have the effect of inhibiting paraffin-sectioned frog heart.

6. Pure natural coix seed polysaccharide has no anti-tumor specificity. If the main chain is removed by organic chemical method, coix seed sugar content with strong anti-tumor specificity can be obtained.

7. Prepare water-soluble carboxymethyl coix seed sugar from coix seed sugar. It has a synergistic effect on tumor radiotherapy and chemotherapy for patients with malignant tumors such as nasopharyngeal carcinoma and gastric cancer, and it also has a certain effect on patients with hepatitis.

Nowadays, most of them are grown using the old method of growing Duanmu mushroom seedlings. The coix seeds produced have a similar diuretic effect, but there is no Poria cocos. Insomniacs will have to look for alternatives.

Coix seed is a kind of medicinal bacteria and a traditional common Chinese herbal medicine in my country. It has a long history of use and has been recorded in the Han Dynasty's "Shennong Bencao Jing". The sclerotium is used as medicine, containing ingredients such as coix acid, coix polysaccharide, ergopentic acid, choline, histidine, etc.

There are many traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions with coix seed as raw material, such as Liuwei Dihuang Pills, Fuling Baizhu Powder, Aoxiangqi Zhengpian, Shiquan Dabu Paste, and Guibu Wine. Coix seed is warm in nature, sweet and light in taste, and has the effects of nourishing blood and calming the mind, strengthening the spleen and stomach, removing dampness and heat, promoting water circulation and treating diarrhea. It is used to treat symptoms such as spleen deficiency, food stagnation, edema, oliguria, phlegm and dizziness, loose stools and diarrhea, restlessness, palpitations and insomnia. In recent years, it has been discovered that the sugar content of coix seed has certain therapeutic effects on gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, lung cancer, etc. It also contains a variety of nutritional and medicinal ingredients, can be used for beauty and skin care and as a food, and is also one of the food and drug resources implemented by the state.

It is distributed in countries and regions such as my country, Japan, Southeast Asia, South America and Oceania. Job's tears are widely distributed in China, mainly in central and northwestern provinces and cities. The main producing areas are Yunnan, Sichuan, Henan, Hubei, Anhui and other provinces. Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Zhejiang, Guizhou, Taiwan and other provinces are also distributed.

Among them, most of the cultivated varieties are from Anhui Province, known as "Anling", while the natural ones are from Yunnan Province, known as "Yunling", which has the best quality. They are all a type of coix seed.
