Land reptiles. It is shaped like a big gecko and is 34 cm long. Body and tail equal in length. The head is triangular, longer than it is wide, with a convex snout. There are webs between the fingers and toes; the fingers and toes are enlarged, with a single row of folded skin flaps at the base. The first finger and toe are not particularly short but have no claws, while the rest have small claws at the ends. The male has more than 20 femoral pores, connected on the left and right; the base of the tail is thicker, and the post-anal sac pores are obvious. The back of the body is purple-gray with brick-red and blue-gray spots; the liquid-immersed specimen becomes dark and light horizontal stripes, with about 7 to 8 on the back; there are also scattered spots on the head, limbs and tail; there are 7 dark and light rings on the tail, the darker the wider; the ventral surface is nearly white with scattered pink spots.

Geckos live in rocks or tree holes (they were obtained by smoke-fumigating tree holes in Xishuangbanna) or on ceilings and walls. Hiding during the day and coming out at night. Quick in action. It preys on insects, as well as geckos, birds, small animals and snakes. It likes to chirp at night. The name of gecko comes from its chirping sound, which occurs frequently from March to May. The tail is easy to break, but has the ability to regenerate. It has the characteristic of biting something and not letting go until it dies, so once bitten, it is not easy to break free.
