Manifestations of vagus nerve excitation

Manifestations of vagus nerve excitation

Vagus nerve excitement belongs to parasympathetic nerve fibers and sensory motor fibers. Vagus nerve excitement can affect a person's insulin secretion, which is not good for human health. It is generally believed that if a person is too nervous and experiences symptoms such as dizziness or difficulty breathing, these can be attributed to vagus nerve excitement. So what are the specific manifestations of vagus nerve excitement? What specific tests should be done if there is a problem with vagus nerve excitation?

The vagus nerve is the 10th cranial nerve and is the longest and most widely distributed of the cranial nerves, containing sensory motor and parasympathetic nerve fibers. If you experience headaches, dizziness, and shortness of breath when you are nervous, it may be a sign of vagus nerve excitement.

Vagus nerve excitation The pancreatic islets are innervated by the vagus nerve and the sympathetic nerves. Stimulating the vagus nerve can directly promote the secretion of insulin by acting on the M receptor through acetylcholine; the vagus nerve can also indirectly promote the secretion of insulin by stimulating the release of gastrointestinal hormones. When the sympathetic nerves are excited, norepinephrine acts on α2 receptors to inhibit insulin secretion. When you are angry, your sympathetic nerves are excited, you feel palpitations, shortness of breath, and trembling all over your body. After you are angry, your vagus nerves are reflexively excited, you feel weak all over your body, and you feel hungry. This is caused by excessive secretion of insulin by the pancreas.

Symptoms include headache, dizziness, enlarged eye fissures, blurred vision, dilated pupils, accelerated heartbeat or even irregular heartbeat, cold limbs, fear of cold, sweating disorders, etc. Symptoms of sympathetic nerve excitement or dizziness, drooping eyelids, tears, nasal congestion, bradycardia, etc. may be sympathetic nerve inhibition (i.e. vagus nerve excitement). Specialized visceral motor fibers arise from the nucleus ambiguus in the medulla oblongata to innervate the striated muscles of the pharynx and larynx.

Generally, visceral motor fibers originate from the dorsal nucleus of the vagus nerve in the medulla oblongata. The parasympathetic preganglionic nerve fibers emitted by this nucleus exchange neurons in the parasympathetic ganglia in or near the organs and then emit parasympathetic postganglionic nerve fibers that are distributed to the organs in the thoracic and abdominal cavities to control the activity of smooth muscles, myocardium, and glands. Generally, the cell bodies of visceral sensory fibers are located in the inferior ganglion below the jugular foramen. Their central processes end at the nucleus tractus solitarius, and their peripheral processes are also distributed in the viscera of the thoracic and abdominal cavities. Generally, the number of somatic sensory fibers is the least. The cell body is located in the superior ganglion in the jugular foramen. The central process ends at the trigeminal spinal nucleus and the peripheral processes are distributed in the dura mater and the skin of the auricle and external auditory canal.

15 Femoral nerve stretch test

Anyone who has had a femoral nerve stretch will have a feeling of pain in the buttocks. In short, it is a type of sciatica, and many people now have problems with the femoral nerve. From a health perspective, in addition to stretching, it is also recommended to wear flat shoes more often and it is best not to wear high heels to avoid aggravating the condition. In addition, regular inspections should be performed. To prevent the condition from further deteriorating.

Sciatica is the result of lumbar disc herniation stimulating the cauda equina, and the patient feels it as pain in the buttocks. Sciatica is a type of lumbar disc herniation. If you have lumbar disc herniation, it is recommended that you do not wear shoes with heels. High heels will aggravate and cause low back pain. The same goes for mid-heel shoes. It's just the pot calling the kettle black. It's better to wear flat shoes. Negative heel shoes can correct posture, replace backward walking, and facilitate rehabilitation exercises.

This test is of great significance for the diagnosis of high lumbar disc herniation. The patient lies prone with the affected knee extended 180 degrees. The examiner lifts the affected calf so that the hip joint is in hyperextension. A positive test is considered positive if pain is felt in the front of the thigh. It is also positive in the case of L2-3 and L3-4 disc herniation. The above actions increase the tension of the femoral nerve, thereby stimulating the nerve root compressed by the herniated intervertebral disc. However, this test is negative when there is intervertebral disc herniation at L4-5, L5-S1.

(1) Preliminary inspection

Observe whether the patient has limping, duck gait, foot drop when walking, etc.; whether the spine has deformity or scoliosis when standing upright, whether the lumbar spine is straight, whether the back muscles on both sides are symmetrical, whether the pelvis is tilted, etc.; whether the spine is restricted when doing flexion, extension, lateral flexion and rotation movements, and whether there are any tender points along the sciatic nerve. After a preliminary examination, it can be determined whether the patient suffers from sciatica.

(2) Test inspection

Through sciatic nerve traction tests, such as straight leg raising test, neck flexion test, crossed straight leg raising test, bowstring test, piriformis muscle tension test, etc., the test is positive. As well as physical examinations of sensation, movement, reflexes, etc., it can be basically determined what type of sciatica the patient has.
