Can macular edema be treated with injections?

Macular edema is a retinal disease, indicating a certain degree of inflammation. At this time, anti-inflammatory treatment must be carried out. This symptom is particularly harmful to the patient's vision health and can easily lead to vision loss. This symptom often occurs in diabetic patients. Symptomatic treatment can be carried out, especially treatment of the primary disease. There are also many treatment methods.

Treatment of macular edema:

1. Traditional Chinese medicine treatment:

Traditional Chinese medicine uses syndrome differentiation and treatment as its main principle to improve fundus circulation, promote blood circulation and remove blood stasis, cool blood and stop bleeding, fight inflammation and detoxify, soften blood vessels, repair damaged blood vessel walls, and improve retinal blood vessel patency. On the one hand, it provides nutrients for nourishment, and on the other hand, it removes blood stasis and promotes new blood flow, improves eye tissue, promotes the absorption of eye disease changes, restores vision, improves visual field, and increases eye brightness.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that this disease is mainly caused by the patient's old age and physical weakness, internal organ qi deficiency or congenital deficiency, spleen and kidney deficiency, liver depression and fire, phlegm and dampness generating heat, and dysfunction of the five internal organs. Since this disease is often secondary to various wasting diseases such as diabetes, it should be treated based on deficiency syndrome, while taking into account pathological products such as phlegm and dampness. Therefore, treatment should treat both the symptoms and the root cause with the main focus on tonifying the deficiency and treating based on syndrome differentiation.

2. Antioxidants:

Patients can take some health products containing vitamin C and vitamin E orally in their daily lives. This can effectively prevent damage to cells, protect photoreceptor cells, and act as a nutrient for retinal tissue.

3. Laser treatment:

The heat energy generated by the laser is mainly used to destroy the abnormal new blood vessels in the patient's macular area. Laser therapy can block existing neovascularization but cannot prevent the formation of new neovascularization. It is a symptomatic treatment.

Don't be nervous if you have macular edema. You should pay attention to the care of your eyes. For example, excessive use of the eyes, watching TV or newspapers for a long time, especially avoiding excessive vibration of the eyeballs, do not chop wood or mince meat, etc., to prevent retinal detachment due to macular edema.

Once macular edema forms and there is suddenly a large black shadow covering the eyes, or a large number of floating objects appear, it indicates that the retina may be detached and you should go to the hospital for treatment in time. Both simple macular edema and macular edema associated with retinal detachment can be treated surgically. In addition, conservative treatment can also be used depending on the cause.
