Why is myopia inherited?

Why is myopia inherited?

When one of the parents has severe myopia, it is possible that the condition will be passed on to the child. High myopia is somewhat hereditary, so we should pay attention to eye protection in our daily lives.

Myopia refers to the situation where parallel light rays converge in front of the retina when looking at things, causing them to appear blurry and unclear. Generally speaking, myopia is closely related to genetic and environmental factors. When there is active myopia in the family, or the parents have severe myopia, the child will be more likely to develop myopia. Patients with high myopia have autosomal recessive genetic properties, which will lead to the inheritance of myopia. Improper use of the eyes can also cause myopia. For example, reading for a long time under strong light, or reading in a dimly lit environment, may cause myopia. It is also possible that long-term exposure to electronic products causes eye fatigue, which can easily lead to myopia. You should pay attention to using your eyes properly in your daily life. You can eat more foods that are good for the eyes, such as blueberries, deep-sea fish, carrots or animal livers, which are good for the eyes.

When myopia occurs, it can be corrected by wearing glasses or through surgery. After the surgery, you must pay attention to eye care and proper rest to avoid recurrence.
