Quanchong is also known as Quanxie in traditional Chinese medicine. It is a medicinal material made from scorpions. This medicinal material has many effects and functions. But everyone knows that scorpions are poisonous, so when using whole insects as a medicinal material, you must master the usage and dosage, otherwise it will lead to poisoning. Next, I will introduce to you the dosage and other related knowledge of whole insects!

1. Usage and dosage of whole insect

For internal use: decoct in water, 2-5 grams; grind into powder and make into pills or powder, 0.5-1 gram each time; the dosage of scorpion tail is 1/3 of that of the whole scorpion. For external use: appropriate amount, grind into powder, boil into paste or soak in oil for application.

2. The efficacy of whole insects

The cephalothorax and anterior abdomen of the whole insect are flat and oblong, the posterior abdomen is tail-shaped, wrinkled and curved, and the complete body is about 6 cm long. The cephalothorax is green-brown, with a pair of short stinging limbs and a pair of longer, pincer-like antennae in the front, shaped like crab claws. The back is covered with a trapezoidal carapace, and the ventral side has four pairs of legs, all with 7 segments, each with two claws at the end. The front abdomen consists of 7 segments, the 7th segment is dark in color, and there are 5 ridges on the carapace. The back is green-brown, the abdomen is brown-yellow, with 6 segments, each with longitudinal grooves. The last segment has a sharp hook-shaped stinger, and there is no spur below the stinger. It has a slightly fishy smell and tastes salty. The whole insect is pungent and neutral in nature. It enters the liver meridian. It has the effects of calming wind and relieving spasms, unblocking meridians and relieving pain, attacking toxins and dispersing nodules. It is mainly used to treat internal liver wind movement, spasms and convulsions, infantile convulsions, stroke, hemiplegia, tetanus, rheumatism, hemiplegia, sores, and scrofula. Dosage and administration: Usually taken as a decoction, 3 to 6 grams. For external use, apply in appropriate amount.

3. Adverse drug reactions and treatment methods

Excessive consumption of whole scorpions can cause headaches, dizziness, high blood pressure, panic, heart palpitations, and irritability; in severe cases, blood pressure suddenly drops, breathing becomes difficult, cyanosis occurs, and coma occurs, and finally death occurs due to respiratory paralysis. If the person is allergic, he or she may develop red rashes and wheals all over the body, which may be accompanied by fever. In addition, it may also cause proteinuria, neurotoxicity, manifested as rigidity and spasm of the facial masseter muscles, and exfoliative dermatitis all over the body.

The main causes of scorpion poisoning are: one is excessive dosage, and the other is allergic reaction in people with allergic constitution. Therefore, the dosage should be strictly controlled and people with allergies should avoid using it.

General treatment for scorpion poisoning: For patients with systemic symptoms due to scorpion poisoning, intravenous drip of 10 ml of 10% calcium gluconate; retention enema of 10% chloral hydrate; intramuscular injection of atropine 1-2 mg; intravenous drip of 100 ml of cortisone, and injection of antihistamines at the same time to prevent and treat hypotension and pulmonary edema; you can also inject anti-scorpion venom serum to quickly relieve the symptoms of poisoning.
