What medicine should I take if the phlegm is hard to cough up?

We all know that there is a tonsil in the human throat. The tonsil regulates the human immune function. The tonsils are the first line of defense of the human immune organs. So when bacteria invade the body, the tonsils will be the first to give signs, that is, the tonsils will become inflamed. Many people have phlegm in their throats that they cannot cough up because of their tonsils. So what medicine should you take if the phlegm is difficult to cough up?

If you often feel that there is phlegm in your throat but cannot cough it out, it may be a problem with your trachea or lungs, such as chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, etc.; if the internal medicine has ruled out problems with the trachea and lungs, then you need to check the throat for problems with chronic pharyngitis, which may also cause phlegm to be thick and difficult to cough up. The main treatment is anti-inflammatory treatment, and cough and expectorant treatment is also given. For particularly viscous sputum, nebulization inhalation of drugs such as chymotrypsin can be used, or ambroxol hydrochloride tablets can be taken orally to dilute the sputum and improve ciliary function.

Mucosolvan: It can generally be used unless there is a clear history of allergies. Ambroxol hydrochloride (trade name Mucosolvan) is one of the most commonly used expectorants in clinical practice. It is available in oral solution and injection. It is effective and relatively safe. Those who have dry sputum that is difficult to cough up can be treated at home with Mucosolvan oral liquid. Hospitals also use Mucosolvan for nebulization, which takes effect quickly and can generally be used by people with no clear history of allergies.

Loquat paste: Suitable for children, use with caution by diabetics. Loquat dew (ointment) contains loquat leaves, mulberry bark, platycodon, menthol and other ingredients. It is available in the form of aqueous solution and ointment. It has a good taste and is suitable for children and other patients with poor compliance. However, diabetic patients should use it with caution to avoid blood sugar fluctuations due to excessive sugar intake in a short period of time.

Myrtle oil: Use with caution if you have poor gastrointestinal function. Myrtle oil (trade name Jinuotong) also has the effect of diluting sputum and is available in capsules and other dosage forms. Clinically, it has been found that some patients experience gastrointestinal discomfort after taking the medicine. Patients with chronic gastrointestinal diseases are advised to consult a doctor before using it.

It should be noted that expectorants only play an auxiliary role in clinical practice. If you want to treat the disease fundamentally, you must first identify the cause. If the expectorant is ineffective after 3 days, seek medical attention immediately. Avoid smoking, drinking, spicy, cold and greasy food during medication.
