Small lumps on nipples during pregnancy

Small lumps on nipples during pregnancy

A woman's body will change a lot after pregnancy. Her belly will become bigger and bigger, and her breasts will become fuller, all in preparation for the birth of the baby. However, careful women will find small particles on the nipples during pregnancy, but I don’t know if it is normal. It is understood that breasts undergo significant changes after pregnancy, and it is normal to have small particles on the nipples. This is to protect the nipples, so there is no need to panic.

The sebaceous glands at the areola are enlarged and raised, like small papules or forming many round nodular protrusions. These are the Montgomery glands, or Monteggia tubercles (Montgomery bodies). They secrete a substance that lubricates and protects the nipple, which is why there are small bumps on the areola. Areola pimples may be caused by normal oil secretion because the skin of the areola has hair and glands. The glands include sweat glands, sebaceous glands and mammary glands. Its sebaceous glands, also known as areola glands, are some obvious small protrusions on the areola. They are large and superficial and are used to secrete oil and protect the delicate nipples and areola. The secretions protect the skin and lubricate the nipples and baby's lips.

Pregnant women may also develop bumps on the areola, which are Monteggia tubercles. They are located on the peripheral part of the areola and are formed by the bulges at the opening of the Monteggia gland duct. From the 8th week of pregnancy, due to the increase in estrogen and progesterone, the mammary alveoli and lobules of pregnant women proliferate and develop, causing the breasts to gradually enlarge. Examination revealed that the breast and the surrounding skin (areola) were darker in color and there were bumps around the areola. After miscarriage, Montessori nodes may disappear as hormone levels gradually recover. It is normal for breasts to enlarge due to the influence of hormone levels in the body after pregnancy. It is also normal to have small bumps on the areola. These are nodular protrusions formed by hypertrophy of the sebaceous glands around the areola, which are normal changes during pregnancy.

In your case, it is caused by the normal secretion of Montgomery's gland, which is normal. Montgomery glands will secrete after sexual intercourse, but it does not mean that normal secretion of Montgomery glands will only occur after sexual intercourse.
