What to do if the sugar clumps

White sugar can be found everywhere in daily life and can be used for seasoning, soaking water, cooking, etc. However, many people find a problem after buying white sugar, that is, white sugar easily clumps together, especially in a dry environment. It may be better to keep it in a cool or sealed place, but the bulk sugar we usually use is very easy to clump. So why does white sugar have such a problem of clumping?

White sugar is mainly divided into two categories, namely granulated sugar and soft sugar.

White sugar: It is the crystal of sucrose, and its purity is generally above 99.8%. From a chemical point of view, it is a very pure substance. White sugar has the pure sweetness of sucrose. In addition to being eaten directly, it is also the main type of sugar used in industry.

Softened sugar: It is made of tiny sucrose crystals wrapped in a layer of invert sugar syrup, and its purity is comparable to that of white granulated sugar. Invert sugar plays the role of softening, adding flavor and sweetening. This is because invert sugar has a honey-like fragrance (the main component of honey is invert sugar) and its sweetness is greater than that of sucrose (if the sweetness of sucrose is 1, the sweetness of invert sugar is 1.2). The strong water absorption ability of invert sugar keeps the sugar grains soft, so the taste of caster sugar is better than that of white sugar. Softened sugar is best eaten directly, especially when eaten cold, but it is not suitable for making high-end cakes.

In fact, this problem will occur whether it is granulated sugar, brown sugar, or powdered sugar we use for baking. How do you deal with clumping table sugar? You wouldn't be poking it hard with a spoon, right? It's too troublesome. Wouldn't it be thrown away directly? Ugh, what a waste.

Let me share a little method. It can’t be considered a trick, but most housewives know this method to loosen up lumps of sugar.

method:

1) Cut a small piece of the washed apple with a knife, put it into the sugar jar and cover it with a lid. After 3 hours, the small amount of moisture in the apple will be enough to loosen the dry and lumpy white sugar.

2) Of course, if there is too much sugar in your sugar jar, leave the apple slices overnight. The sugar will definitely become better the next morning. If you are in a hurry to use it, you can put a few more apple slices, cover it with a lid, and it will be ready in about 2 hours.

3) In addition to apple slices, carrot slices, and celery segments can also solve the problem of sugar clumping. Give it a try.
