Can I use essential oils during menstruation?

Essential oils are a kind of skin care product loved by many friends. Essential oils can moisturize and refine the skin. Many women have the habit of using essential oils every day, but they don’t know whether they can continue to use them during menstruation. They are worried that essential oils will cause adverse effects such as irregular menstruation. Women must take good care of their bodies during menstruation. Can essential oils be used during menstruation? Let’s take a look at it next.

1. Can I use essential oils during my menstrual period?

Because women's hormone levels change during menstruation, pelvic and uterine congestion and the body's resistance will decrease. Therefore, the use of essential oils can easily lead to problems such as increased menstrual blood volume and prolonged menstrual period. In particular, rosemary essential oil has the effect of regulating menstruation and is not suitable for use during menstruation.

The best time to start using essential oils is 7 days after the end of your period. If you use it 2-3 days after the end, it may cause your period to come again. It is best to stop using it three days before the next menstrual period.

2. What should I pay attention to when using essential oils?

1. Some essential oils may cause skin allergies to the sun's ultraviolet rays, so avoid exposing your skin directly to sunlight within 4 hours after use. These essential oils include: bergamot, lemon, sweet orange, grapefruit, tangerine, petitgrain, lime, etc.

2. Since the concentration of essential oils is very high, never take them internally.

3. Avoid using certain essential oils during pregnancy because some of them can cause menstrual disorders and some of their diuretic ingredients may cause fluid loss in the placenta. These essential oils include: basil essential oil, sage essential oil, juniper berry essential oil, rosemary essential oil, marjoram essential oil, fennel essential oil, clove bud essential oil, cypress essential oil, chamomile essential oil, lemongrass essential oil, peppermint essential oil, cedarwood essential oil, eucalyptus essential oil, etc. (Be careful not to use essential oils in a sprayer)

4. When using essential oils for massage, be sure not to touch your eyes to prevent them from sticking to your eyes. If this happens, don't panic. You can soak a cotton swab in milk without rubbing it with your hands, then wipe the infected area. In severe cases, rinse your eyes with lukewarm water for about 15 minutes.

5. Air, light and heat can all reduce the quality of essential oils. Essential oils should be stored in a ventilated, dark place, and the bottle cap should be tightened after each use. Use stainless steel, glass or ceramic containers to hold essential oils, not plastic products. Store in a dark glass bottle in a sealed container in a cool place away from direct sunlight to extend its shelf life and better maintain its efficacy.

6. In a confined space, excessive exposure to essential oils may cause nausea, dizziness, headache, blood sugar imbalance, pain, over-excitement, etc. Therefore, if exposed to high concentrations of essential oils, ensure that the room is well ventilated.

3. Taboos during menstruation

During menstruation, you should not refuse strenuous exercise, eat cold food, and drink more warm water.
