What causes itchy belly after childbirth?

We all know that after a woman gives birth, her belly will become smaller because the fetus has been separated from the belly. Also, due to childbirth, women will have a period of lochia. Many women will experience postpartum abdominal itching after giving birth. So what is the reason for women's postpartum abdominal itching? Let me introduce it to you below!

1. Pruritus during pregnancy (PUPPP)

[Common]: It mostly occurs in first-time pregnant women (but it can also happen in multiparous women). About one in every two hundred first-time pregnant women will have prurigo. Although most people experience it in the last 3 months of pregnancy, for some people it continues until after delivery, or even occurs after delivery.

Reason: Unknown. This type of papule is very itchy. The cause of the disease is not yet understood. Some literature points out that prurigo is closely related to the formation of stretch marks, and women who gain too much weight during pregnancy are more likely to get it.

[Symptoms] The symptoms of prurigo in pregnant women are that some small red rashes first appear on the belly, especially near the stretch marks, which gradually merge into one and slowly spread to the thighs.

"Disappear": Pregnant women's prurigo usually disappears about 1 to 3 months after delivery.

2. Urticaria

Urticaria, also known as hives, has many causes. For some people, it is caused by food or drugs, while for others, it is related to emotional stress.

"Reason": [Eating rice wine-based dishes] Because Chinese people have the custom of confinement after childbirth, they will be exposed to some foods that they rarely eat normally, especially rice wine-based dishes, which often make urticaria worse.

[Stress] The emotional stress of taking care of a baby can cause changes in physical constitution, making urticaria difficult to control.

Symptoms: Red papules, like mosquito bites, slowly merge into a large area. The rash will appear all over the body, and after scratching, the rash will become more obvious and the itching will become more severe.

"Improvement": Urticaria usually takes half a year or more to improve. Severe itching requires oral medication to control.
