How to remove urine smell in the house

When babies are young, they cannot tell the difference between urination and defecation, and are prone to urinating and defecating on the floor of the house. But as we get older, the food we eat becomes more and more diverse, and after we urinate, a strong smell of urine will be left on the ground. Or when you have pets at home, it is inevitable that your pets will urinate and defecate on the floor. Over time, there will be a urine smell. So how do you remove the urine smell in the house?

1. Use paper towels to absorb the urine on the carpet. Remove as much urine as possible. This will make the following work easier. Press firmly with a new tissue and repeat this process until you can no longer absorb any more urine.

2. Use enzyme cleaner.

It is important to note that some enzyme cleaners may not work if you have previously tried to remove urine stains with other chemical cleaners. It's usually a good idea to use an enzyme cleaner first and soak the area where the urine is. Use it according to the product instructions, and after it dries for a few days, you may not need to clean it.

3. Tips for using vinegar. If enzyme cleaners don't completely remove the smell, try using vinegar. Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a bowl or spray bottle. Wet or spray the area where the urine is. Spray slightly beyond the stained area to ensure that all of the urine is removed.

If you have a black light or UV light nearby, you can see that the urine glows in the dark, allowing you to pinpoint all the spots in the house where urine is.

4. Scrub the contaminated area with vinegar. Use a stiff-bristled brush and vinegar to scrub the stained area thoroughly. The vinegar will neutralize the pungent ammonia smell of cat urine.

5. Dry thoroughly. Use paper towels or a clean rag to absorb as much of the vinegar as possible, then allow the area to air dry thoroughly.

6. Disinfection of hard surfaces. Clean the contaminated area with a household cleaner that does not contain ammonia. The smell of ammonia can feel like urine to cats and dogs. Scrub the area clean with water. Mix one part bleach to ten parts water in a spray bottle. Wear rubber gloves and spray the contaminated area. Allow the bleach to sit for at least 30 seconds before cleaning with a damp cloth.

Be careful when using bleach, as it may ruin or change the color of some materials.

7. Check for urine on clothing. If any clothing has urine on it, add one cup (60 ml) of apple cider vinegar to the laundry detergent during your wash routine. If you still smell urine, you can also add some enzyme detergent to the laundry.

Dry cleaning may be necessary. If you can't remove the smell or stain, you may have to throw it away.

Part 2 Deodorization

1. Sprinkle some baking soda on smelly places. Baking soda, also called sodium bicarbonate, is a natural cleaner that also acts as an odor absorber and deodorizer.

2. Mix a small amount of hydrogen peroxide and mild dishwashing liquid. Mix 1/2 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide with 1 tablespoon (5 ml) of dish soap and spread it over the baking soda.

If you're concerned that the liquid may cause discoloration, try testing it on an inconspicuous area first.

3. Scrub with a stiff-bristled brush to combine the mixed solution with the baking soda. If possible, wear rubber gloves while you wait for the baking soda to foam and the hydrogen peroxide to work.

4. Pat the area dry and let the mixture dry.

5. Vacuum the soiled area. Vacuum the contaminated area to remove urine residue and any deodorizer that was used. It is best to use a wet vacuum cleaner in this situation because they can saturate the carpet and then draw the moisture into the vacuum canister. You can also use a regular vacuum in a pinch, but it won't be as effective as a wet vacuum.

A wet vacuum works best when you use cool water in the canister and follow the instructions. Do not use a steam cleaner as the high temperatures will set the urine stain.
