Slow brain development

Slow brain development

A child's intelligence is affected by many factors, and intelligence issues are very difficult and more important. As children grow, their brains also develop gradually. It is normal for the brain to develop slowly, but the difference cannot be too big. If children are obviously inferior to others in intelligence, parents should pay attention to it and solve it in time. Let’s take a look at the possible reasons for slow brain development.

You can check whether your baby has the following high-risk factors:

1. Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy in newborns: if there is fetal distress during pregnancy, the mother has severe pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome, heart disease, severe diabetes, etc., the child has severe asphyxia, intracranial hemorrhage, etc. during birth.

2. Premature or low-birth-weight babies: Because the brains of premature babies are not fully developed at birth, they are easily damaged during the birth process. Low birth weight babies generally have delayed growth in the womb, and their brain development may also be affected.

3. Pathological jaundice: Newborns generally have physiological jaundice, which often appears on the third day after birth. If jaundice appears early or subsides late after a baby is born, and the jaundice is severe, it may be pathological jaundice.

Be alert to the following situations:

1. Sleeping too much or being easily startled after falling asleep: Moreover, the arms and legs shake when moving; it is easy to scream or cry, and it is difficult to comfort after crying; the trunk and limbs are stiff, and the head and trunk are easy to lean back;

2. Abnormal attention ability: After 2-3 months, the child is still unable to pay attention or the attention time is short, the eyes drift, the child cannot smile, and cannot make happy sounds such as "ya ya";

3. The baby still clenched his fists after 3 months: and his hands cannot be opened, cannot touch each other in front of the chest, and cannot suck his fingers; when crying, his upper limbs are tight, bent or turned behind the back; when lying on his stomach, he cannot raise his head or raises his head for a short time, or when he raises his head, his head is always turned to one side and is not easy to turn left or right. Babies often don't like the prone position. Once they are put down, they lower their heads and raise their hips and start crying.

4. Head raised too high at 2-3 months: Some babies raise their heads to 90 degrees or even higher at this time, and their bodies also lean back, which often happens when they are crying.

5. Stiffness of both lower limbs: In addition to stiffness, the legs are difficult to flex and extend, and there is little alternating kicking. Parents often find that the legs are difficult to separate when changing diapers. Stand on the bed with your legs stretched too far, even with your toes touching the bed.

6. Motor development is delayed: cannot lift head at 2-3 months; cannot reach things at 4-5 months; cannot roll over at 5-6 months; cannot sit at 7-8 months; cannot crawl at 9-10 months.

7. Excessive weakness: This is also an abnormal manifestation. In the case of delayed motor development, it is also accompanied by indifferent expression, no crying or making a fuss, no communication with others, not easily excited, no interest in external stimuli, less movement of hands and feet when lying on the back, etc.

8. Feeding difficulties: The baby easily chokes when drinking water. He cannot make sounds like "ah", "dad", "mom", "da", etc. when he should.

9. The baby's head circumference is smaller than the normal development. Experts remind: If more than two of the above phenomena occur, it is best to take your baby to the hospital for examination. The doctor will conduct further neurological and imaging examinations. If necessary, early rehabilitation treatment will be arranged to ensure the baby's healthy development as much as possible.
