Shennong's Herbal Classic once recorded: "Xanthium sibiricum is mainly used to treat wind-induced cold pain, rheumatism, stiffness and pain in the limbs, dead muscles, knee pain, and long-term use can invigorate the Qi." Compendium of Materia Medica also records: "Xanthium sibiricum, stir-fried and drunk with wine, can dispel wind and replenish the body."

Folk remedy - Xanthium sibiricum for chronic rhinitis

The method is: prepare more than 40 Xanthium sibiricum seeds, smash them and put them into the pot, pour in 50 grams of sesame oil, and fry them over low heat. When the Xanthium sibiricum is fried until dry, use chopsticks to pick it out and pour the oil in the pot into a bowl. After the oil has cooled, put it into a glass bottle and set aside. When using, soak a little oil on sterilized cotton and plug it into the nasal cavity before going to bed every night. Do this once a day and you will see results in one week. To prevent breathing difficulties at night, just plug your two nostrils alternately.

Precautions for taking Xanthium sibiricum

Do's and Don'ts: Do not take this medicine if you have headache or pain caused by blood deficiency. Toxic side effects: decreased activity, slow response to external stimuli, irregular breathing, extreme difficulty breathing before death, accompanied by paroxysmal convulsions. Pathological histological examination showed that liver damage was the most serious, that is, the main cause of seed kernel infusion poisoning was liver necrosis, and the convulsions caused by subsequent brain tissue edema may be the direct cause of death.

Clinically, excessive use of this product (more than 30g) or accidental ingestion of more than 10 Xanthium sibiricum fruits can cause poisoning, which usually occurs within 1 to 3 days, and the severity of the poisoning reaction varies. Common symptoms include dizziness, headache, fatigue, mental depression, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or fever, facial flushing, conjunctival congestion, urticaria, etc.; in severe cases, there may be irritability or drowsiness, coma, convulsions, arrhythmia, high blood pressure, jaundice, hepatomegaly, liver damage, bleeding, the presence of casts and red blood cells in the urine, and urinary retention. Hepatic coma, liver and kidney failure, or respiratory failure may occur due to massive necrosis of liver cells and lead to death. There have been clinical reports of death due to overdose of Xanthium sibiricum (children took 600 grams within two days).
