What to do when children have diarrhea and vomiting? Are parents doing it right?

Since children have relatively weak immunity and resistance, they are easily invaded by gastrointestinal bacteria and suffer from diarrhea, vomiting, etc. Once a child has diarrhea and vomiting, parents should find out the cause as soon as possible and provide targeted treatment to avoid affecting the child's growth and development.

1: Causes of diarrhea and vomiting in children

1: Vomiting and diarrhea in children are common in digestive disorders, and the triggering causes are often irregular diet, excessive activity after eating, or mental stimulation. When a child vomits, the first thing to do is to temporarily fast so that the digestive tract has some time to rest. You can first give him some light sugar salt water or light tea, and he will be fine after a few hours or 1 to 2 days.

2: If the baby occasionally vomits after feeding, it may be that he has swallowed air. The nipple should be blocked during the next feeding to prevent him from swallowing air. After sucking, you can hold the baby and pat his back to let the air out. Then lie on the right side with the upper body slightly raised.

3: If the child often vomits after sucking milk but is generally normal, he may have pyloric spasm. Under the guidance of a doctor, the child should take some antispasmodics. When the general nutritional status is affected, pyloric hypertrophy should be prevented and a doctor should be asked to check.

4: If severe vomiting occurs repeatedly, including spitting out yellow water, and general care does not improve, be careful of intestinal obstruction. If accompanied by other conditions such as fever, the details should be reported to the doctor. If you find that the vomitus is abnormal, you should bring it to your doctor so that the doctor can analyze the cause of the vomiting and deal with it promptly and correctly.

2. Treatment of diarrhea and vomiting in children

1: In principle, fasting is not recommended for children with diarrhea. They should continue to be fed, but this should also be managed flexibly according to the condition of the child. For example, children who vomit frequently should not eat for the time being, but should receive intravenous infusion to correct dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Once the condition improves and the child has an appetite, feeding can be resumed as soon as possible.

2: The diet during diarrhea needs to adapt to the child's digestive and absorption functions. Generally, you can refer to the child's appetite and diarrhea situation and adopt the principle of gradual progress. For example, infants can be given 1/2 diluted milk first, and then gradually increased to whole milk. Children who usually eat solid or semi-solid food can start with porridge, rice noodles, etc., and gradually change to a thicker diet. The amount of food can also be gradually increased from a small amount.

3: Resume an adequate and balanced diet as soon as possible to avoid being in a semi-starved state for a long time. For intestinal infections such as acute bacterial dysentery, if the infection can be quickly controlled with antibacterial drugs, normal diet can usually be resumed within 2 to 3 days. Rotavirus enteritis is a self-limiting disease, which is mostly caused by congestion and edema of the intestinal wall after viral infection, which results in a large amount of water and nutrients being unable to be absorbed and being excreted in large amounts.

4: For patients with persistent and chronic diarrhea, in addition to treating the cause, the key is to improve the nutritional status of the sick child and pay attention to the supplementation of vitamins and various minerals.

3: If the condition is very serious,

Then you need to go to the hospital for examination, find out the cause, and then get treatment. You can take anti-inflammatory drugs, such as Changning tablets, etc., and then supplement with food and Chinese medicine. It is best not to eat raw, cold or overnight food.
