How is EB virus infected?

The EB virus is the herpes virus, which is quite harmful to human health and can easily induce a variety of diseases. If it is not treated well, it may also induce tumors. It is a carcinogenic virus and there are many causes of infection, which is often related to the deterioration of human immunity. Sometimes there will be a latent period, which can easily lead to hepatosplenomegaly, etc. At this time, it is necessary to conduct regular treatment in a timely manner, especially to improve the body's immunity.

How is EB virus infected?

EBV is a DNA virus that is spherical in shape with a diameter of 180 to 200 nm and replicates in B lymphocytes. Humans are the host of EBV infection, and the virus is mainly transmitted through saliva. Asymptomatic infection often occurs in young children, and more than 90% of children aged 3 to 5 years have been infected with EBV. Cellular immunity plays a key role in EBV infection, and the decline of this function will lead to the activation of EBV.

Clinical manifestations

The incubation period of EBV infection is 4 to 7 weeks. Prodromal symptoms include headache, fatigue, etc. 80% of patients may develop a clinical triad: pharyngitis, fever and lymphadenopathy. The infection can involve various organs of the body, generally with fever, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, swollen lymph nodes throughout the body, hepatosplenomegaly, rash, etc. Some may also experience neurological symptoms, which generally require a recovery period of 2 to 4 weeks.

diagnosis

Laboratory tests can reveal lymphocytosis, elevated transaminases, thrombocytopenia, etc., but a definitive diagnosis requires the presence of EBV DNA and its expression products (RNA or protein). Positive serum anti-IgM antibodies and the subsequent positive anti-NA antibodies indicate primary EBV infection. If the anti-early protein IgA titer increases, the patient's risk of nasopharyngeal carcinoma will be greatly increased.

treat

There is currently no specific treatment for EBV infection, and the disease can mostly heal itself. Treatment is supportive. Antiviral drugs can inhibit EBV replication, but some studies have shown that they are ineffective. Hormones are only used in cases of anemia, thrombocytopenia, etc.
