Can ringworm of the hand be contagious to the face? Tinea manuum is caused by fungi. If you are not careful and allow the fungi to attach to your face, it may also cause facial tinea. Therefore, you should seek timely treatment after becoming ill to kill the fungi and prevent the spread of tinea.

1. Symptoms and characteristics of tinea manuum

According to dermatologists, tinea manuum is a widely prevalent disease throughout the world and has a very high incidence rate in my country. Long-term immersion of hands in water, friction of hands, and contact with detergents are also very important causes of tinea manuum infection. Patients are mainly young and middle-aged women.

When tinea manuum first occurs, it appears as blisters on the palms or between the fingers, or keratinization and desquamation of the skin on the palms. The blisters are mostly transparent and extremely itchy. After the blisters burst, they will dry up and form white flakes. The center will heal, and herpes will be stimulated around it, and it will spread to the back of the hand and wrist. If it recurs, it will cause the skin of the fingers and palms to become thickened, withered, cracked, painful, and difficult to flex and extend, just like a goose's foot. There are mainly blister-scaly type and keratotic thickening type.

Vesicular scaly tinea manuum. This type of tinea manuum usually starts as a single case. It will first start in a certain part of the palm, especially the palm, the palm surface, side and root of the ring finger. At the beginning, it is a needle-sized blisters with thick and shiny blister walls containing clear fluid. The blisters gather in groups and cause itching.

Keratotic thickening type: This type of tinea manuum develops mostly from the blistering and scaly type. Patients generally have a history of many years, often involving both hands, and the skin lesions do not have obvious blisters or annular desquamation. The palm surface is diffusely red and thickened, the skin lines are deepened, the skin is relatively rough, dry and scaly, it is easy to crack and bleed in winter, and there is obvious pain.

2. How to care for ringworm of the hand?

Patients with tinea manuum should receive appropriate anti-inflammatory treatment. Once a fungal infection is confirmed on the hands, timely treatment should be initiated to prevent the lesions from gradually expanding or becoming chronic. Patients can use antifungal drugs for treatment and avoid using hormone drugs to avoid aggravating the condition.

Patients should also reduce external stimulation to us. Patients with tinea pedis should avoid washing hands with soap and reduce contact with irritating substances such as detergents, soaps and other chemicals. Develop the habit of wearing gloves. If patients want in-depth treatment, they should go to a regular hospital.

Warm reminder from Beijing Huayi Dermatology Hospital: The scary thing about tinea manuum is that it can spread. As a regular specialist hospital, Beijing Huayi Dermatology Hospital has helped many patients get rid of the harm caused by skin diseases and regain healthy skin.
