What to do if your roommate snores

What to do if your roommate snores

Some small problems are inevitable in collective life. For example, if your roommate snores when sleeping, it will affect others' rest. When this happens, you should not complain first, but actively look for some ways to improve your roommate's snoring. There are many reasons for snoring, such as being overweight, having some nasal problems, or having problems with the throat, which may all lead to snoring. For different situations, you can use some small tricks, which can often achieve a good relief effect.

Reasons for roommate snoring

1. Nasal causes: deviated nasal septum, nasal polyps, enlarged nasal conchae, congestion and hypertrophy of nasal mucosa, chronic rhinitis, etc.

2. Causes of the pharynx: enlarged tonsils and adenoids, enlarged uvula, enlarged and drooping soft palate, and enlarged tongue.

3. Congenital anatomical malformations: mandibular developmental malformations (such as micrognathia), mandibular retrognathia, etc.

4. Functional reasons: The airway is normal when awake during the day, but the muscle tension around the airway decreases during sleep. In addition, the root of the tongue falls back when lying on your back, causing airway narrowing and snoring.

Tips for treating snoring

1. Put a baseball on your back when you sleep

Many people snore when they sleep on their backs, but not when they sleep on their sides, so a simple solution is to fix a baseball on the back of your pajamas or pillow, which can force you to choose a side-lying position when sleeping.

2. Choose the right pillow

Some people think that raising their pillows can help improve breathing, but in fact, this has the opposite effect. It is recommended to choose a softer, more elastic pillow of appropriate height to facilitate breathing.

3. Use a humidifier

Keeping the air in your bedroom moist can help prevent dryness in the throat and mouth, and prevent excess mucus from accumulating in your nasal cavity.

4. Eat some honey before going to bed

Honey helps lubricate the throat and clear the airways, so you can add some honey to your calming tea before bed.

It should also be noted that obesity can cause the airways to narrow and smoking can cause respiratory diseases, both of which can lead to snoring. Drinking too much alcohol can also make symptoms worse. Therefore, maintaining healthy living habits, strengthening exercise, losing weight appropriately, and maintaining a good figure will all help solve the problem of snoring that affects sleep and quality of life.
