Yoga for varicose veins

Yoga for varicose veins

Varicose veins are a disease caused by heredity or long-term standing. They usually occur in the legs, which is often called varicose veins of the lower limbs. After varicose veins occur, patients must go to the hospital for timely treatment. In addition, varicose veins can also be treated through certain exercises in daily life, and yoga is one of them. So, which yoga moves can treat varicose veins?

1. Causes of varicose veins

Varicose veins, commonly known as "floating tendons", are a common disease of the venous system. The main reason for its formation is maintaining the same posture for a long time, which causes blood to accumulate in the lower limbs. Over time, the venous valves are damaged and the venous pressure is too high, causing varicose veins.

Varicose veins often occur in the lower limbs. Red or blue, twisted blood vessels that look like earthworms, or hard nodules that look like tree tumors appear on the skin of the legs. The veins become abnormally enlarged, swollen, and varicose. Patients are prone to fatigue and may feel soreness, heaviness, swelling and pain. Severe cases may cause ulcers or other complications.

Varicose veins are a vicious cycle. When a valve in a vein breaks down and loses its function of transporting blood back to the heart, blood will accumulate in the vein, causing the vein to expand under pressure, affecting the next valve. The valve cannot cover the over-expanded vein and loses its piston function, which then affects the third and fourth valves.

2. Yoga therapy for varicose veins

Principles: Avoid all standing poses; effectively promote blood circulation in the legs; use auxiliary tools to prevent excessive fatigue; arrange more inverted poses.

1. Hero sitting: use pillows, blankets and other auxiliary tools.

2. Seated Angle Pose: Pay attention to the stretch of your back.

3. Bound Angle Pose: You can place a blanket under your hips and a yoga brick under your knees.

4. Supine Bound Angle Pose: Use a pillow to raise your waist, back and head, and use a yoga belt.

5. Reclining Hero Pose: Use a pillow to raise your lower back, back and head.

6. Boat pose: Use a yoga strap or chair to assist with the boat pose.

7. Sit-and-forward bend series: auxiliary tools are required.

8. Headstand: pay attention to protecting your cervical spine.

9. Shoulderstand and Plow Pose: Both use pillows and chairs to assist.

10. Child's pose: a relaxing pose.

11. Supine Hand-grabbing Feet Pose: Use a yoga belt to help stretch.

12. Bridge pose: Assisted bridge pose, with calves raised.

13. Inverted Arrow Pose against the Wall: Place the pillow under your lower back.

3. How to stay away from varicose veins

1. Avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time and maintain moderate exercise.

2. Raise your legs frequently, preferably above the level of your heart, and keep your knees bent to promote blood circulation in your legs.

3. Avoid lifting heavy objects frequently.

4. Maintain a normal weight to avoid increasing the burden on the leg veins due to being overweight.

5. Wearing medical elastic stockings can promote venous blood return in the lower limbs.

6. When sleeping at night, raise your legs by about 15 cm.

7. Quit smoking. Smoking increases blood pressure and damages arteries and veins.

8. In terms of diet, you should eat more high-fiber, low-fat foods and increase your intake of vitamin C and E.
