There are three reasons for carotid artery pain

The carotid artery is one of the largest arteries in the human body and is also the largest artery with the most blood flow. If there is a problem with the carotid artery, it will cause a severe reaction in the human body. Generally, patients with carotid artery pain will feel uncomfortable all over, cannot lie down when in bed, and getting up is very slow and difficult. There is more than one cause of carotid pain. So, what are the causes of carotid artery pain?

1. Stiff neck: It usually occurs in the morning when the patient feels sore and uncomfortable in the neck, mostly on one side but not on both sides. The pain may last until noon and become more and more serious. The patient cannot turn his head or flex or extend his neck. When lying in bed, I cannot lie down because of the pain in my neck. When getting up, I have to hold my neck with both hands to barely sit up. In severe cases, the head often tilts to the affected side, and the pain worsens when the neck moves.

2. Cervical spondylosis: It is caused by degenerative lesions of the cervical spine that stimulate or compress surrounding blood vessels, nerves, etc. Cervical spondylosis has a slow onset, with the main symptoms being discomfort or pain in the neck and shoulders, limited upper limb movement, numbness, headache, dizziness, blurred vision, weakened grip, muscle atrophy, and in severe cases, lower limb weakness and incontinence.

3. Soft tissue injury of the neck: Neck pain occurs due to improper working posture (such as working with the head down for too long); or there is an obvious history of trauma, neck pain after the injury, a sense of weight, tenderness at the injured area, pain from the back of the neck to the occipital region, or radiating to one or both sides of the shoulder and scapula. When the injury is severe, the neck pain is also severe, or the neck is in a stiff state, various activities are limited, and even sympathetic nervous system symptoms such as heavy head, headache, and tinnitus may appear. Symptoms such as numbness, weakness, inflexibility, and easy loss of objects in one or both upper limbs may also occur.
