Black and loose stools

Black and loose stools

People basically have to eat every day. The food they eat is generally digested and absorbed by the stomach and transmitted to other parts of the body through the circulatory system, and the other half is excreted from the body. So basically, people with normal bowel movements need to go to the toilet every day. Normal stools will be yellow, but some people with health problems or improper diets will have black and loose stools. What is the principle behind this?

Healthy stools are brown-yellow in color because normal people's stools contain bilirubin.

1 White or grayish white indicates that bile excretion is impaired, suggesting bile duct obstruction, the possibility of gallstones, bile duct tumors or pancreatic head cancer. In addition, grayish white stools can also be seen after barium meal radiography. This is not caused by disease but is physiological stool.

2 White rice water sample stool is a white turbid liquid like rice water without feces, with large amount, which is common in cholera.

3. White, oily, and foul-smelling, common in pancreatic diarrhea or malabsorption syndrome.

4White mucus may indicate chronic enteritis, intestinal polyps and tumors.

5 Dark yellow is more common in hemolytic jaundice, which is jaundice produced by massive destruction of red blood cells. It is often accompanied by hemolytic anemia, which can be caused by congenital red blood cell defects, hemolytic bacterial infection, malignant dysentery, blood transfusion with the wrong blood type, poisoning by certain chemicals or toxins, various immune reactions (including autoimmunity), etc.

6 Green, watery or pasty, with a sour smell and lots of foam, it is often seen in diseases such as indigestion and intestinal dysfunction. If the green stool is mixed with pus, it is a sign of acute enteritis or bacillary dysentery. Patients who have undergone major abdominal surgery or received extensive antibiotic treatment, if they suddenly have green watery stools with a fishy odor and grayish-white flaky, translucent, egg-white pseudomembranes, may have Staphylococcus aureus enteritis. In addition, eating a lot of foods containing chlorophyll or excessive acidity in the intestines can also turn the stool green.

7. Light red stool like meat washing water. This type of stool is most common in the summer due to eating certain pickled foods contaminated by halophilic bacteria. Common diarrhea is caused by Salmonella infection.

8 Bright red is common in lower gastrointestinal bleeding. If the outer layer is sticky with blood in a small amount and is accompanied by severe pain, which disappears after defecation, it is anal fissure. If the blood is bright red, in varying amounts or in the form of blood clots, attached to the outer layer of the stool and not mixed with the stool, and the blood or blood clots can be washed away with water, there may be internal hemorrhoid bleeding. Another characteristic of hemorrhoidal bleeding is that a small amount of blood often drips or spurts out after defecation and stops on its own after a while. If the blood is bright red and mixed with the stool, it may be caused by intestinal polyps or rectal cancer or colon cancer. The bloody stool of rectal cancer is often mixed with erosive tissue. The bloody stools of colon cancer are characterized by fresh blood in small amounts accompanied by large amounts of mucus or pus.

9 Dark red is dark red because the feces are evenly mixed with blood, and is also called jam color. Common in amoebic dysentery, colon polyps and colon tumors. In addition, certain special diseases, such as thrombocytopenic purpura, aplastic anemia, leukemia, hemorrhagic fever, etc., can also cause blood in the stool due to coagulation disorder. This blood in the stool is generally dark red, sometimes bright red, and is often accompanied by bleeding in the skin or other organs. Another situation is that normal people who consume excessive amounts of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, cherries, mulberries, etc. may also have dark red stools.

10. Black stool is also called tarry stool because it is as black as the asphalt on the road. It is a common type of stool indicating gastrointestinal bleeding. It includes duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer, antral gastritis, gastric mucosal prolapse, esophageal varicose vein rupture and bleeding in liver cirrhosis, etc. However, eating too much meat, animal blood, liver, spinach, oral iron and bismuth agents. Activated carbon, etc., feces can also be black and should be distinguished.
