Why do people have tooth decay?

People always encounter such problems in life. They are all worried about the health of their teeth, but the more they worry, the more problems will arise. This is all due to carelessness in life. For example, they often eat sweets, do not pay attention to brushing their teeth, and do not rinse their mouths after eating midnight snacks. Over time, food will remain in the teeth, breeding bacteria, causing inflammation, and finally leading to tooth decay.

Reasons for tooth decay after brushing:

There are many reasons for tooth decay, the most likely being poor brushing. For example, not brushing your teeth carefully, brushing for too short a time, using an old toothbrush, using a toothbrush that is too hard, etc., will all affect the quality of brushing your teeth. Scientifically speaking, we should brush our teeth after every meal, especially after eating sweet or sour foods. If you cannot brush your teeth in time, it is best to rinse your mouth, which can also reduce bacteria and food debris in your mouth. If your teeth are crooked, or you eat a lot of sweets or drink a lot of beverages, you are prone to tooth decay. Don't think that you can rest assured about tooth decay just by using a high-end toothbrush and mastering the correct brushing method.

The occurrence of dental caries is as follows: bacterial accumulation + nutrition - acid production - tooth corrosion - dental caries

There are also bacteria in our mouths that are invisible to the naked eye. These bacteria cling tightly to the teeth and can easily cause tooth decay over time. The process of tooth decay is as follows: cariogenic food sugars (especially sucrose and refined carbohydrates) are tightly attached to the tooth surface, forming an acquired film composed of salivary proteins. This acquired film is not only firmly attached to the tooth surface, but also has enough time and temperature to produce acid deep in the plaque, attacking the teeth, demineralizing them, and further destroying organic matter, resulting in caries.

Many times, when tooth decay occurs, no matter how fine the bristles of a toothbrush are, they cannot reach the tooth surface, between teeth, and between teeth and gums.

Furthermore, many adults suffer from interproximal caries, which cannot be cleaned by toothbrushes, as shown in the figure:

Therefore, no matter how well you brush your teeth, it may not be able to prevent tooth decay. The best way is to see a doctor for a systematic oral examination at least once a year. Have your teeth cleaned every six months.

The benefits of teeth cleaning

Teeth cleaning can effectively remove dental plaque and tartar, prevent caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, bleeding gums, bad breath, and loose and falling teeth.

Consuming some foods and colored drinks can deposit pigment on your teeth. Pigmentation is particularly noticeable in people who smoke for a long time and like to drink dark beverages, which has a great impact on the appearance of teeth. During the teeth cleaning process, these pigments will not accumulate for a long time.

The main purpose of teeth cleaning is to prevent and treat oral diseases, not just for appearance. During teeth cleaning, the doctor will do a comprehensive dental examination for the person so that he or she can clearly understand the condition of his or her oral cavity.
